How big is the impact of adding a blog on a simple presentation website? Does it worth the effort? Note I am not speaking here about the benefit of getting some long key traffic. I am speaking here about the homepage ranking better in serp due to being a larger website.

Having a blog could help your site get more traffic if you target keywords in blog posts. Simply having more site pages hasn't been proven to help a homepage rank better, but having a blog could give your site more authority by demonstrating expertise.

Look at your competitors's sites - do they have blogs? If so, how are they using them to drive traffic/interlink?

Having blog posts can help for sure. Do you have any social media accounts? Writing interesting blog posts and sharing them via social media can bring in a lot of traffic to your site. Can I ask what your site is about?

I'm no expert but I believe that blogging adds more keywords and related terms to your overall site, as well as opportunities for internal linking.

The OP is a pretty vague question really. Every page opens up another opportunity, providing it relates to the overall theme of the site.

I have heard of people who do a subdomain for their blog site. This is an issue however, the true reason slipped my mind, but im pretty sure it is because it ranks as a completely different site.

I would personally avoid that and focus more on implementing the blog to your own site.

Yep, you have the correct reason. A subdomain is treated as a different domain.

I understand it's something good, the real questions is weather it is cost efficient or not. Quality content isn't free, it costs either money or your own time and effort. So the question is weather interlinking and having a larger website overall help enough to make the addition of a blog cost-efficient.

It is definitely worth adding a blog, at least in my experience.

Adding new blog in website with internal link, that's pretty good for website so that's blog can send different search engine. so it get more benefit for website. search engine get new blog from website and it will effect on SERPs.
