Well, I'm guessing they only make money via Adsense? But nowadays 80% of people use adblockers. What then?
And is it a stable way to make good money? And those who don't use adblockers, they don't even click on those ads by Adsense. So, is it a stable business model?

So, in a nutshell, what are the ways a free service providing website can make money other than google adsense?
 
For the Facebook video downloader they use a lot of referral links and sometimes chumboxes
 
If you have a lot of traffic, it's easy to earn money.
But if you have a lot of money, it's not so easy to make traffic.

It's very easy to put referral links and start earning.
Just look, this Facebook downloader has earned a plenty of natural backlinks and solid organic traffic. So it can be sold on sites like flippa.

Also they can use it as freemium and constantly offer a premium version.

Can you please explain this part? If I have a "lot" of money, then I can start paid ads and then after constant optimizing I think I can make more money?
 
I don't think its 80% people using adblock. There are still so many people who have no idea what adblock is.

Ouch! well i`m over 50 and i`ve been using adblockers for years.I also know how to install an extension
and i have never worked/trained in IT.

But you are right, 99% of my mates look at me gone out when i suggest such things.

where do you get that 80% stats? I'm using mobile mostly and I don't know how to setup adblock on my mobile.
And you are wrong, when you have money you can give free service. I don't think the first and second sites need much attention. It's set and forget sites. Just a domain + cheap web hosting is enough.
Nowadays you can get php script on codecanyon (or even download for free here or somewhere), buy a cheap domain + shared hosting => start your service.
I have many php scripts like url shortener, site auditing, site information, IP checker, Instagram bot, CRM... I setup all subdomain + my shared hosting.

Where did you get this information? 80% people don't use adblocker.

No sure how the above sites monetise their traffic, but if you want to start your own similar one, I would recommend to add a very simple registration form (name and email) and provide access to the second and further downloads to registered users only. Then you will be able to create a huge single opt-in email list and sell solo ads on marketplaces like Udimi, as well as emailing your own affiliate promos. It will give you a few times more money than Adsense.

Disagree.

Not everyone shares the same selfish mindset. Especially in the programming world, a lot of people create value for the better of humanity.

All these tools also rely on libraries, which are made entirely free.
