Make a landing page for your smartlink or cloak it.

Yes, this should work. You could also use the free tools like bitly for example, but it will look a lot better if you use a domain which you bought.

Using a domain or shorteners doesn't cloak or hide your smartlink. Crawlers will still go straight to your link. You need to use a cloaker or landing page.
