New White Hat Site..What would you do..

Hello All,


I have a quick question to ask you more experienced White hatters in the forum. Well, a couple of questions. Here is the scenario:

I am launching a brand white hat website and would like to start off on the right foot. This website is a blog and it uses the Wordpress CMS. I am completely willing to pay for some placement in the more popular link directories, and have approximately 20 unique articles to distribute for the purpose of building backlinks.


So here are the questions:

1. Which free/paid directories do you recommend? Is high quantity better on the free directories? OR should I just stick to the high quality PR 4 + free link directories. As for paid directories, the budget is around 200 - 300 dollars and I would like to get as many solid links from this cash as possible. (I am open for other recommendations as well)

2. Article Distribution - At what interval would you suggest submitting the articles for natural link building. (assuming 20 articles) I plan on using Isnare.com for my main distribution vehicle, but I would like them to be included in some higher ranking article sites as well. I plan on submitting them manually to these higher ranking article directories and then submit using Isnare. Should this be switched around? I also have a copy of Article Post Robot which I plan on using after the article has been submitted to these primary directories. This will distribute each article to 400 or so more directories. (any suggestions here?)

3. Blog Specific SEO practices - are there any solid methods to use for blog specific link building that are not included above?

Any help with these questions would be much appreciated.

Hi gross100,

1. I would suggest that you go with directories with high PR ranking as they will increase your PR ranking faster. If possible you should get .gov sites or at least sites with links from .gov site to link to you which would be great for your ranking.

2. I am not really sure about Isnare because i never used it before. The article directories that I submit to are goarticles, a1articles, and ezine article.

3. As for blog SEO I think you can find alot of information about it around the forum.

BTW remember to keep your articles promotion free and only include your advertisement in the section where you can put your sig.

I suggest you don't waste your time on directories. Submit to DMOZ and forget and if you have money try Yahoo. Apart from that don't bother with 1000s of shitty ass directories people spend months submitting to. I own a few directories myself lol and I would never submit to them.

One fast and easy way to help your SEO efforts on a blog is to change the permalink structure to display URLs that are more contextually relevant. Including categories and post titles can actually be very helpful.

Search through Yahoo Directory and try to find a way in without having to pay. I submitted my diet site without having to pay. Also submit to Yahoo Canada Directory which is free.

The top directories are the ones you see on the first page on Google (pretty simple). I advise you go to a freelancing network to find people who are willing to help you or you can setup a new thread in the freelancing section here and ask for something willing to do the job.

For the last 2 years none of my clients had any considerable results after submitting to 1000s of directories. Obviously every little helps but these links are almost worthless now. You are better off submitting to bookmarks and other social news networks. I have had an experiment with 2 year old and a brand new domain. I think I have covered this one on DP somewhere with appropriate documentation. Il see if I can dig this out for you.

On the other hand I was only saving him a bit of time. Go ahead and knock yourself out submitting. Let me know if you get any results.

I think his talking about general directories not article submitting. Two different things. But if you are going to submit to directories make sure their relevant to your site.

I was indeed talking about general directories. I am trying to save that guy a bit of time and share my personal experience and you are bashing me for this? If you don't believe me then whats your problem? Carry on submitting to general directories.

PS: Shoemoney has a good video on directories, that they no longer work as well as they used to. Oh, and there is also a video from web 2.0 expo where a bunch of people discuss the poor quality of directory link... Oh and maybe you should read what Matt Cutts says as well. Google knows that most general directories are nothing but a bunch of links used by no one but webmasters. Have you done any experiments yourself? Are you aware that Google is against link sales and started penalising those who sell backlinks? Are you aware that directories are there to sell backlinks? Do you know how many massive PR7 directories got screwed by Google, such as alive directory for selling links? They don't even show up for their own domain name now.
