Getting a job as a web designer

How hard is it? I have a pretty strong portfolio.
I've responded to job ads and what not however no one seems to reply.
Anyone have a method? Do i need to work for free to prove myself because I will.
Oh, and i am from Canada.

I love spending time with the Adobe suite, so they go hand in hand.

Thanks for the video. I've worked for a media agency for 3 years until they went under and since then hustling freelancing.
My resume could be the issue as I worked for 1 agency in my agency that went under and maybe my job prospects don't like that.

That's great to hear. Perhaps you are searching for the wrong jobs (you did say web designer, which is a backdated term these days lol). Also, I'd suggest that you stick to a certain part rather than trying to do it all by yourself. UX is a pretty lucrative career opportunity these days.

If you have stackoverflow careers, look into the remote jobs. Afaicr there were some remote ux positions in many companies. Apply for those. Build a rockstar CV (this will be easy for you as you are a designer.. And it is pretty important at the same time and for the same reason). I am sure people will hire you.

Edit: and oh yeah.. Never ever work for free. You are just wasting the whole market that way

I did do freelancing mostly was to build me portfolio. I've had a hard time with upwork, it did work though but it's not consistent. I got to the point where I just want someone to give me work that I will complete.

Then I would look for design agencies first of all. Don't work for free, but you may complete a small test task to prove yourself.

Update. So you have a pretty much of experience already. Show your resume to your friends to review, and just keep applying. It may take some time, because they get dozens of resumes.

It's getting harder and harder to land a project and work these days. I have been freelancing for almost 10 years until now. I'm just lucky that I have connected to a lot of good people that still gives me projects up to this day. In the past it was super easy to get projects on eLance or oDesk as long as you can prove yourself and you got the skills. I remember turning down a lot of project invites because you can't do them all. But recently I noticed that's it's a lot harder because the competition is really tough and with the emergence of a lot of website builders from page builders to Wix, a lot are just doing their site themselves.

I'd suggest focus on a specific niche and specialize on it. Build a very nice looking portfolio before applying to anything.

Don't make the mistake of basing the content of your portfolio solely on how beautiful your work is.
Try to emphasis some of your UX knowledge.
Explain your work in depth, why did you choose to do this over that. ( that kind of stuff etc... )
if you are good with Adobe suite as you're saying, present urself as a multihat designer.

I meant infraction points. It's like punishment points. Which take from some to very long time to expire. And until they expire, you are restricted from a lot of features on the forum, for example - starting a sales thread.
