I've been monitoring the code of conduct in some software communities and it's draconian. They ban you for whatever random reason. So the devs are probably not being unfair in this case.

If devs go through with that threat, then free software is dead.

Its really just a continuation of the tech industry not having a consumer first mentality. It gets worse when a company or organization gets filled with people that also don't know that you are supposed to leave your personal view points outside instead of bringing them to work.
