Research on Hashtag update?

I have been seeing people post hashtag guides and services from months ago and I wanted to update the newer folks on the changes. From what I understand, the following is true.

1. Videos are being given slightly more favor

2. Pics and videos are personalized

3. Engagement % does NOT seem to be the primary factor for top posts.

4. Old methods on hashtags are irrelevant

I am open to corrections if anyone has more definitive data. Has anyone developed an understanding or method to the madness that is the new hashtag system? My views from hashtags are completely toast and I am not exactly sure how to adjust.

Great question. We need more research, hence the thread inquiring if anyone has done some research. I suspect it's similar to how one hits the explore page, but I have no evidence to support that idea.

What you see on top post may not be same as mine.
And mostly...comments, followers that comes from hashtags are probably some kind of bots. Unless its a current trend hashtag.
Instagram is not a search engine where majority, uses the search function.

IMO hashtags are good until you reach a certain number of followers then they are irrelevant .....when i use hashtags on my big account it usually suffers but on my small accounts video views explode lol....but then again ive had 3 post deleted and have been shadow banned 3 times because of it so that may be a factor too

What's frustrating is that we don't have good data on this forum that I can see. my most recent post just hit the explorer page and now I don't even see hashtags in my insights.

Interesting tidbit of info though. I may look up some hootsuite stuff research methods and update with info.

same for me man, all my posts hit explore thankfully but for some reason hashtags just arent in my insites at all

I am trying to understand the rationale behind this. Are they trying to kill off hashtags? I still see viral posts on popular hashtags so I have no idea what's going on.

i doubt that, the fact that they added the option to "follow hashtags" shows that theyre still good to use, im just a little confused with the system atm
