Hello everyone,

After many years of lurking I decided it's time to create an account and start contributing myself.

I read many, many threads in this section about monetizing my own Facebook page and after some time I took action. I bought an active Facebook page with 55k likes, for a small price. I bought it from a friend who was too busy and not interested in maintaining it any longer. I was an admin there for years so I have a good feeling about what the people who like the page like, and what not. It's a very specific niche with a very specific audience. I also created an IG account last week which is currently growing with 300 followers a day. This is happening because of the specific niche. I think there is a lot of room for me to grow so I decided to focus on this FB page and IG account specifically.

I'm currently waiting for Adsense to approve my news website which I created for this Facebook page. I plan on sharing the articles and lead traffic to the site. While I'm waiting I decided to sign up for an affiliate program and experiment a little bit. It's not with Amazon, but the same idea. In the Netherlands we have another online store which is basically #1 on the market (and beats Amazon) and has a nice affiliate program. 6% commission for every product sold and the cookies stay active for 5 days so if a person buy any random product during this time, I get a commission for this regardless. I made €1,61 by sharing 1 product relevant to the FB page. I wrote a short recommendation and shared the link on the page. It only brought in 76 clicks (the post got many likes though) which is ridiculously low. I think Facebook punishes the reach of bit.ly links? It's possible I will earn more in the next days to come. I will keep sharing products and we'll see what happens.

Now this seems like a (semi-)good story so far. But I have some mixed feelings. I know you don't know the final result until you try everything, but it would be great to get some feedback from some more experienced marketers and exchange experiences. I could really use some help with what would be the best strategy. In the first place I'm wondering the following: is it feasible investing money into FB ads to grow my page? I'm currently paying $ 0.15 for each like (Tier 1). We all know reach is terrible. With 55k likes I get around 500-2k likes each post and around 7000 impressions. If I invest thousands of dollars will I be able to create a passive income in the long run? I know it's not get rich quick scheme and I'm willing to invest money and time into it, but it would be great to know if anyone has an idea if it's worth it. And should I focus entirely on my Adsense website or can I share some affiliate page on the page as well? So let's say: 4 pictures a day, 1 affiliate link and 1 news article?

Thank you for your replies!

Sir, If you really got a high reach on your 55k, You can try the new ad breaks which you can monetize your videos, If you need videos or help with these we can make a deal.

Id be interested to see what niche this is... send me a message if you like

What is Ad Breaks? I've never heard of it before. Unfortunately I don't think my audience interacts well with videos. I tried to upload some before but pictures seem to be the big winner.

With all respect, I won't be telling you my niche. I think that is a bit of common knowledge here on BHW. That would be like giving away money or potential growth.

So, unfortunately I didn't have any new sales but they have a bonus program which means I'm getting €2,50 for the first sale. This doesn't seem like a successful monetization strategy so far, and I'm looking forward to use Adsense. I'm getting 2000 clicks on each news article I put on the Facebook page before, so I think that's not bad at all looking at the size of the page. I'm more than curious what Adsense will pay me with 99% of the traffic coming from the Netherlands. I'm thinking about purchasing Followliker. I wonder what social network will be the best (besides FB) to send traffic to the website: Instagram or Twitter.

If videos not working with your page, Why you're jumping to Adsense ? If your can get a good reach and clicks on your link posts then try Instant Articles.

Do you think it would be better? I've heard mixed stories about instant articles. That it's difficult to get accepted for monetization and that the payout rate is (much) lower compared to Adsense. And I would like to have one main website to send all my social network traffic to.

Yes, it is easier, You can get like 20k traffic in a week? If so, It's better than adsense for the payout rate, that's well-known i dont know who told you that.

Yes ad breaks are they way forward now for people with big pages

you wont make much with 50k fans from adsense. ad breaks look it up

Well as far as I understood Adsense is the way to go. I've been reading 20+ pages in the Facebook section and I never read something that mentioned Adbreaks. So that's why I had no idea.

Thanks, I will definitely look it up. But 4000 views a day (in case I'd place 2 articles) wouldn't be that bad for Adsense, tier 1 traffic? That's what I thought. Of course I'm nowhere where I'd like to be but I was thinking it's a good beginning.

200 clicks today on my affiliate links. Better results than yesterday but still no sales. Maybe in the next days to come. CTR rate is 0,4% now which is very low.

I just checked and unfortunately, Ad Breaks is not an option for now. So I'll have to wait.

"Ad breaks is only available to Pages that publish videos in certain languages and countries right now. More countries and languages will be supported through the end of the year and in 2019."

It's because my page is in Dutch. I hope it will come soon enough because it looks like a good option to me.

Yeah it's a wicked option for everyone. In 7 days I've nearly made $1000. One of my other pages just got accepted today as well. So i'll be earning even more.

try with some mobile cpa promotion if page is really active you can get good results.

Don't do affiliate links on Facebook pages, Trust me, IA, Ad-breaks is the way to go, Put the effort on them then Adsense.

Why do you recommend against it, is it a reach killer? Or could it kill my page? I posted one affiliate link today with a product and I had 400 clicks on it. I guess I'll wait for my Adsense to be approved which should be any moment now.

That's some insane progress, congratulations. I hope they launch this option for Dutch pages by the end of the year or during 2019. How many likes does your page have?

Do you have any networks you could recommend? I'm getting advised against it but it's always worth looking into.

So, is there anyone that could tell me if it's worth investing money into FB ads, grow the page and the monetize it with Adsense? That's something I'm still wondering. I managed to bring down the amount to $0.11 for every like (Tier 1).

AdSense is not the only network to apply for, considering you can get a good volume of traffic there are number of networks that would happily take you in.

Additionally, since you already have powerful FB page - you can use Audience Network and monetize your instant articles. It pays good!

Do it. I like FB ads use them for my own as well as not my own sites. It’s pretty cheap CPC and most of the time performance is good (if your ad campaign is good). I would not do the CPA unless you do the CPA’s only for your niche, e.g. rotating same offer. But I am a traffic arbitrage guy, not CPA, so there may be different opinions about it.

Thank you for your recommendation. It's good to know that it's something that should not be overlooked. I'm thinking that I should make use of an extra banner coming from another Ad network besides the Adsense banners, if Adsense allows this.

That's most important for me to know at the moment. I'm hoping to shift slowly into this venture as a main passive income by growing Facebook pages (and other social networks). I realize it's a lot of work and takes quite the amount to invest in, but if it's worth it, why not. Even though the reach has been limited during this year and it might be even more difficult in the future I believe if it will be still worth doing if you keep growing.

So this is what it looks like after day two of putting affiliate links on my Facebook page. I don't think it's worth it. I will keep publishing some more links during this week because now it's too early to tell if it really works. I don't think it's something that I should keep doing. Not even an affiliate banner on the website, this might only work if your page has a really large following. Commissie means commission. Omzet is the net worth of the products sold.
