So I sold 40 of the wrong item and they have already been shipped. I have already gotten a couple refund requests, but I was wondering if anybody has any tips to handle the rest that will probably be coming in soon.

I thought about closing my shopify store and cutting it as a loss, but not sure what happens after I close my store as far as refunds go.

Not sure how you could send 40 times the wrong item, is it 40 orders or less?

What you could and should do is now send them the correct items, and offer the wrong one as a freebie. But this depends on item value and other variables. If you could make 40 orders or so, it would be crazy to close the store, as you can make sales in the future. But depends how you got the sales, PPC? Are these profitable sales?

It's 40 orders that came in around the time span of a little over 2 weeks, so a few people have gotten the product and have requested a refund.

I understand it's stupid to close, but after the IG influencer ads were done and the products were purchased, I only made about $100.

The cost to order new products, is way more than it would be to refund.

A very costly learning experience it seems.
Either you burn your reputation or you lose money, or both.
Food for thoughts.

Well im assuming you sold most of your products to US consumers so here are the 2 scenarios -

1. you refund everybody and lose the money (what I would recommend if you plan on staying in business)
2. you ...."hide" ? ? ? lol hide from whom? they will all chargeback & win their disputes, you get the money taken from you + you lose your merchant account.

I used to own offline businesses (retail), what you've done is considered fraud and no CC company will be on your side so ... give the money back and cut your losses.

Hopefully you've contacted your customers and explained the problem. If not, do it quickly, and offer a solution. From my experience, people are understanding if they are notified about a problem and offered a solution!

this is the smartest move you can do.

Do you have good relation with supplier?
All those products were bought from same supplier?
Did you ship via ePacket?
If your answer is YES, I suggest you to send an Email to your customers and apologize to them. Tell them due wrong item is shipped and ask them what they want refund or reship. Also tell them not to accept the current parcel. If they reject, the parcel will automatically come back to supplier. Then ask your supplier to refund the paid amount. You can tell your supplier that you are ready to pay for the shipping charge.

Doesn't matter whether you close the shop or not, if people want refunds, that will be done via the payment processor (such as PayPal), not Shopify. If you don't have enough money on your PayPal, they will simply take it from the linked bank account, if you don't have any linked or your balance doesn't cover the refunds, your PayPal will go to negative. If you don't pay what you owe, PayPal can/will sell the debt to a collection agency.

wondering how you sent 40 wrong orders? whos mistake you or the supplier ? and why thats happen with out you noticing

You can resend 40 correct items.
If you use Stripe and just hide, you might not be able to get a new merchant account later.
