Have one client but having a hard time expanding.

More fulfilling how?

More fun and engaging for you?

Better effort : reward ratio?

Easier to explain results to clients? Happier clients?

Cause shit, if you can sell me on this, I'll just get straight to learning PPC if it's better bang for buck

Woah hey, you wanted to do Local SEO. Don't change your goals that easily especially after you already put effort into it, otherwise you'll have enough of PPC too and move on to something "better".

It's better for me because I have control over what's going on and can invest what I learn from it into my own side projects, and also because I don't have to touch website development anymore (I don't know why, but I always hated it. I'm more into mobile development & data science these days).

Your copy is fairly weak. For starters, you need a better opening line. "I help dentists get the patients they’re missing out on" isn't much of a hook. You have only a couple of seconds to capture the attention of your readers. Make better use of it.

In many companies, the letter-opener is not the decision-maker, and obvious ads are trashed.

Instead of opening with big promises and assuming that you know the client's problems, you should open with specifics of what you do, and what you can provide (you put this at paragraph 6/7). And to get past the gatekeeper, add in an offer for something free. What that free thing is doesn't really matter, as long as it provides some business value and forces the letter in front of a decision-maker.

An additional tactic that I'm now testing out, with surprising success, is to say "I will be in [town] for a few days on [~2 weeks from sending the letter], maybe we could meet for lunch at [restaurant]". The soft-scheduling proves that it's not a mass-mailed letter, and it gives them a relatively short deadline to make up their mind about a meeting. I've only had one taker for the meal, but plenty of others scheduled in-office meetings for a more convenient time of the day, when they almost certainly would have otherwise opted for phone calls or emails.

You just have to narrow down your market, target those who you feel actually needs the service and go in hard for the kill.
I tend to stay away from the generic niches like dentists and lawyers etc. It's way too much competition. A friend of mine works at a law firm and always tells me how he gets more than 15 - 20 calls a day in regards to website design services and SEO services.

I stick to extremely hard to find niches that make big $$$ per sale. Less salesman calls and more chance of getting a client.

Care to provide an example of a better line?

On mobile, so I don't feel like typing out the headline I used when I send out letters, but offering a free video audit of their site + ads is huge and got me so many more clients than before. It's super easy and only takes an hour of your time, and it gives your potential leads some value right off the bat plus they get to see your face, which really helps personalize the experience even more.
