Google penalised us - any experience on recovering?

Hi!
So my boss had the not-so-great idea to buy expired domains and redirect to the main page of our site. All of them at the same time.
As he didn't listen to my advise: Don't do this, now we are penalised.

Any experiences on recovering sites from penalisation? Any advise on filling up de Reconsideration Request form?

you can send reconsideration request only if you had penalty message in your webmaster search console, if thats the case i would definitely try it, unlike spam links removing redirects is very easy because you can control them.

So, I didn't recieve any penalty message, but I've absolutely been penalised. How am I supposed to inform then? Just removing those "backlinks"?

I noticed the penalty when looking the metrics on GSC, from 2.000 clicks on average to 0 just in 1 day.
And I confirmed by doing:
site:catalunyadiari(.)com and nothing appeared but the site was still online.

can you search for your domain name and see what it returns. also search for you brand and see the results. do you see anything?

It just shows facebook page, twitter account and info from other sites. No trace of our domain.

Anything in mind? Is G plotting against .com domains?

remove those back links as soon as possible, which i think you already have. if so, just wait for few days

Well, I finally recieved the message of the Manual Penalization in the GSC.

Yep, all the content is unique.
Cheking Ahrefs we have 500+ domain backlinks (organic, without counting the stupid cheat my boss did)
In Google you're not going to find anytthing because we're penalised

We're indexed again (thank god)

Since we took action until G indexed us again it had been just 3 days.

ps: the moral of all of this is that my boss is now asking me things. (thank god, again)
ps2: the other moral is: don't trick G if you don't know what you're doing
