Some context: I own a forum and want to improve it with more relevant content.

Is either one better?
Or no real difference?

If I make a thread with the original post having a (500 word) article.
Or
If I add a blog to the website and put the articles there.

Also potentially relevant.
There isn't too much competition so googling the niche+keywords usually results in first page.

Thanks for your comments/advice.

What exactly do you want to improve - organic traffic to the blog, more active users, more signups, ...?

Basically everything.

But my above post is more in reference to SEO. I didn't actually mention that just posted it in the SEO section.

If there is a difference between a long forum post or a blog post.

I would suggest you split them, if its an article per week, then every third week it goes to blog and in the blog section you can have one of those "read more at the forums" thing. Sounds like a lot of delicate automation.

Not a bad idea thanks.
