Hi

My girlfriend works at a beauty salon that does everything such as makeup, nails, eyelashes, haircuts etc. and they asked me if I could do some facebook advertising for them. I've done facebook ads in the past with some success in dropshipping but I've never tried promoting a local business before. I want to give this a go without taking any money upfront until I get them results.

What would be the best way to go about this?

The reach is showing me 83,000 females within the city + 20km radius from ages 18-60. Should I just go for broad targeting or try to pick out interests? If I start picking out interests I'm sure that number will drop dramatically so I'm thinking of doing broad targeting in the beginning.

What's the best objective to run for these types of ads? They only have a facebook page, they do not have a website, so I'm guessing brand awareness would be the one to start with promoting their facebook page.

Also I'm thinking of what type of ad I should be running for this salon to attract clients to them. I was thinking of doing some coupon code specials or something like that but this is something I'm still thinking about. I'm spying on what other salons are doing in the bigger cities to get some ideas.

I know that everything has to be tested and nothing is set in stone but maybe someone here is doing something similar and could share a few pointers before I get started on this. They really want me to do this since my girlfriend told them I'm into this type of stuff so I want to help out if I can.

Any help will be greatly appreciated my friends!

*Edit*
*I just realized I should have posted this in Facebook not Making Money, sorry for that.*

hello @Dresden i'm marketing manager in my company, they have several small business, hope this works for you

IMO it's depend on your small business,
and it's not instant result

this is my suggestion, for long way branding
1. It's popular or not?

NO? let's branding mode
Instagram

Do you have an instagram account?
Yes - use influencer,
  • Faster result is using giveaway/big discount + follow instagram for influencer (1 time for a month)
  • don't ever try using follow - unfollow that will destruct your brand, instead of that make several small influencer account, post about beauty and your brand (for me 10:1)
  • NOT ALL post for influencer is PROMOTION (i mean discount, etc), try posting only branding post
no - go create! culinary, fashion, and salon really need that, believe me, i'm exploding my brand for branding better using IG better than FB (for starting)

Facebook ads
PPE vs BA vs Reach
i bet you never use BA/Reach for dropshipping, but small business have a large effect, for me small business with no popular in town BA/Reach work best
but you must test it, what best for you, sometimes each of them works well, sometimes don't
this my test mode
  • 1 month + 1 week each method (don't do same method for same month, post about branding post, look at your income for result not ads result)
  • Large money - go for broad (but when it's come popular i only use broad)
  • Small money - use flex targeting
*yes 83k is small for dropshipping, but small business it's depend (i'm targeting only about 10-20k for first branding)

after that, do this for 3-6 month
  • If PPE work best then your cash flow ads should be PPE vs BA vs Reach 7:2:1 (this works well if your brand is popular)
  • If BA work best then 5:3:2
  • If reach work best 4:4:2 (lol it's like football)
*PPE in my case only works for FB, ig is sucks as hell
*this ratio is created by me on researching, you can use it or try to test yourself
*i always combo that 3, reach is only important for first timer

LAST use BA & PPE 7:3, and retargeting (not for WC but engagement)

that's a little for branding about 1 year building brand, and then it's easy to make your promotion successful, next is playing with customer mindset
====================================================================
YES
well, i can't tell you more, if i don't know what's going on in your brand, that can be a lot of things
====================================================================

Wanted to go faster? this is one of my setup, but dunno it will work for you or not
1st month
create several voucher in 1 post for 2 month periode, A+B product only $xx from $xxx, C+D+E product only $xx from $xxx, A+C+E+F product only $xx from $xxx, etc
how to redeem? just only show the picture to your cashier
use PPE ads only for facebook
Create big discount for 2-3 days with IG influencer
2nd month
voucher is on going
use IG influencer for branding post (about 2-4)
3rd &4th month
Repeat like 1st-2nd month with different product and promotion

Feel free to ask
cheers,

Guido

You should try to appeal women with low levels of interaction on social media, because these usually are less connected and are more likely to go to a salon than make-up tutorial watching Generation Z.

Thanks for the detailed guide! I'm not sure about IG Influencer as my city is pretty small and the only people that will come visit this salon are either from the city up to a 20km radius. Also, the salon is pretty popular I would say and high end. Wives of very popular soccer players from my country come to this salon. The facebook page has a very small following so I was thinking of putting up an ad enticing people to like the page to receive a coupon, once the page is liked a facebook messenger bot would send out the coupon.

I like the idea of a like for a coupon, you could also throw in share this post, like the page, like the post to receive a '10% discount' or whatever. A share would give you more exposure.

that's great!
let's tweak it a lil bit, try this simple step
make coupon/discount > like page (so you will have real converted customer)
than you can targeting on friends of them (no need to filter)

For that golden customer (wives of very popular soccer), make video of reviewing your product, give her free coupon/etc, create video targeting woman who love soccer/soccer player

For me golden customer is money maker, not source of money(i mean you dont need their money, but their participation), use them properly, make them proud, even give them free, you'll have "mouth to mouth marketing"

oh yeah, one more thing you can target MAN not only woman, but you must know whos man who gonna give advice woman to beauty salon?
example (in my country),
man with engage is more caring to woman, he'll trying to buy thing, suggest on whatever that make her woman perfect
man who have high social status, you can target man love expensive thing in your country, maybe their culinary (starbucks or something), because that person "smart" as hell of beauty thing, they tend to give advice for woman so he can get more social status or even using for themself

or even man who love man (if you know what i mean), in my case they are source money, they really wanted look better than the other, buy or use anything even pricey
except your beauty salon is for woman only

be creative my friend, i bet you do

regards,

guido

Thanks for these detailed responses! I'll definitely give everything a try and see how it pans out.

Again thanks :)

Hey, what is those numbers? I mean 7:2:1? How many adsets for each objective or what?

I've done this for my gf massage salon and it went really well. I targeted the whole city and picked health and sport interests. Also I made her write interesting articles on her Fb page and boosted them. I also made a website for her and made a little local seo. Now he has organic traffic and a 1 month waiting list.
