I am hiring someone to write content 8 hours a day. I am paying him hourly. Obviously, I don't want to get ripped off, the guy can just sit there and watch porn and produce 500 words a day. So how many words is the minimum he should be producing per day?

Charge by the word

If you really cant do that, i would say 1k to 8k

If you pay him $10 per hour, then he would earn $80 on a daily basis. And for that amount of money, he should write you somewhere around 8000 words daily. However, if you pay him just $1 per hour, then he earns $8 daily and should write only 800 words for the amount. So it all depends on various circumstances, but that should be a starting base.

would be better for you to pay /word. a decent writer may ask $2/100 word.
I personally pay $1.7/100 word

I personally pay per 100 words, and to keep the quality high, I also have a proofreader who deducts payment for 3 or more grammar mistakes. That way I don't lie awake at night thinking whether or not I am getting ****** over.

25 writers and counting.

I definitely agree with the people here saying to pay per words as opposed to hourly! Seems to make a lot more sense.

There is no way you should expect someone to produce 8000 words a day!

I think 3000 to 4000 a day is acceptable if the quality is very high and research time is needed.

BHW members tend to have a warped idea of writing in general. Their rates and expectancy stem from using low quality cheap writers. Some of the posts I have seen are quite insane lol.

Thank you! I completely agree. At least someone's on the same page as me :)

Well, depends. What kind of content?
Research heavy whitepapers, case studies, or simple SEO content?
However, as many said by word tends to be the better option unless you have worked with the writer ,who you will be paying hourly, before. Most will just take their sweet time vs. by the word they will do that as fast as possible(thus the need to set expectations based on quality you want). Just do a few samples by the hour and you can get an idea of how much you pay per word and compare it to premium services.

When your car had an issue, don't you prefer flat pricing to fix the issue vs. posting a mechanic hourly to find/fix the issue?

A lot depends on the kind of content and quality you're seeking.

I can slap together 5,000 words in 5 hours. Or I can spend 5 hours carving out a 1,000 word piece.

What do you need? Quality or quantity?
