FB Advertising - Am I crazy?

Hey guys,

I am a semi-noob to fb ads and its starting to drive me a little crazy. I have been running a dropshipping shopify site on and off for about a year. Recently been putting in a lot of time on it the past month and its definitely going better than past attempts.

My products are generally pretty cheap - AVG order value is around $10 or a little higher.

So, I have made around 35 sales and have been using FB ads targeting coversions. I try to get ea conversion for around $4.50 (which is hard as hell lol). I’ve been doing a lot of testing to try to bring the conversion price down and have had some success but the exact same thing keeps happening no matter what type of ad I put out.

The Problem:
I usually budget each ad at $50/day (It never actually spends this much though) and almost everytime it will make 2-3 sales in the first 12-20 hours it is up. Generally costing around $2.50-4.00 for each of these conversions. These conversions always tend to happen very close (timewise) to one another. I haven’t had issues with fraud orders yet either. After this first few sales, it will keep spending but WILL NOT convert. The conversion cost will go up to $10+ ea and I have to kill the ad.

Short of literally running ads for less than 1 day each, does anyone have a solution or suggestions?

I'm still a total noob but from what I gathered around here :

Low margin are not the best way to start as you need high volume to make real profit.

These conversions always tend to happen very close (timewise) to one another. .

Is it possible to run your ad only on these successful timetables ?

Not OP but I’m curious about this, should you generally aim for an audience of around 1 million or more? I’m new to fb ads.

Depending on who you ask, the algorithm does best when there's at least 1 million to work with, but that's not necessary (or even helpful, imo) for every offer.

If you go for a paid traffic source and with a Push method (showing ads) - you should either:

1. Have a comfortable KPI to work with so your ROI can be positive even when testing

2. Have a killer product (or products, but have atleast 1 killer above all the rest) - some product just convert better, and are a "gold rush" for their audience

3. if your margins are low, but your offer is still converting at a decent ratio, try to find a similar but better product, supplier or even try to split test your price.

you need to up your life time value game with upsells and cross sells (email, phone, 360 retargeting etc) - surviving on low margins with paid traffic can be hell,
when thats the case you always gotta have that "other funnel" connected to that one, where you actually make your money from, selling more expensive services or products.

Yea it is. Much larger, more like 100million.

I have definitely been coming to realize more and more that the points you’ve made are very true. I have been implementing this very minimally. I have in cart upsell by awesome software ATM, but I haven’t been able to make a single upsell :/. Receipts and abandoned carts have yet to convert.

I have a decent size list of emails i’ve gathered from the stores traffic so my next moves going to be doing some email campaigns.

Appreciate the feedback man. Any other suggestions?
