I get it. You have a massive white hat website. Thousands of pages. And you want to do some SEO to your site.
Low comp and long tail terms normally do not justify a link building campaign.
I have been in that boat, and still am. Even if you can't start a link building campaign to every new page, you can build links.
Benefits of easy links
This should be straight forward and common knowledge, but most people miss the reason why we do basic seo work.
I have three reasons for basic seo work.
1. Indexing new pages.
2. Provide naked anchors.
3. Provide social signals.
When you build easy links, you guarantee page indexing. You also add a foundation of naked or branded anchor texts. This helps for future link building campaigns.
If you get 10 links to your page from basic link building, you can build a few keyword rich links with zero risk for penalty.

Every new page I build the following links abd social signals:
1. Tweet
2. G Plus Profile Post
3. G Plus Community Post
4. G Plus Branded Page Post
5. Facebook Profile Share
6. Facebook Page Share

These seven links guarantee my page is indexed and is perfectly safe and requires zero effort.

For social signals, only g+ provide real seo value. But all the aforementioned links are important as a foundation.
After that, you have a few easy links that provide traffic and ranking.

Yahoo answers is dying, but it still provides traffic. Quora is a traffic monster with well crafted and aged accounts.
