Something weird with reddit accounts

Hi guys

Something super weird happened to me was wondering if you could help me understand what happened.

On Tuesday there was a new guy that said he decided to contribute back to the forum and he has many to give the community. From the list there were reddit accounts. I replied that I'm interested in reddit.
He ended up giving me in PM 2 accounts.
I logged in changed the passwords and changed the email address and even posted something on one reddit account.

A day ago I couldn't login to one of the accounts and today I'm not able to login to the second one.

Saying user/pass is wrong.

Could it be that reddit have deleted the accounts?
Could it be that he took them back?
What did he gain from that? Since the msg on the forum he never logged in.

It's unlikely to be from a bad IP. All they do in that scenario is shadowban the accounts so you can login and post, but nobody will see what you're saying. Either way, you can check the status of the accounts by going to their /u/ pages.

Was there an email associated with it? Was the email recently changed? If a Reddit account has recently had an email change then it can be recovered. Why he would do that after giving the accounts away for free I have no idea.

BTW when I'm doing reset password it says that it's sending the reset instructions but they never arrive....

Atleast they are not shadowbanned

It's a possibility that Reddit may have locked the accounts though.

They were probably hacked accounts with the original passes. You can change the pass but the owner could reset it via email.

Three days ago Reddit was hacked. They reset most passwords.

The hack only affected accounts from 2007 and before, from what I recall. They're not forcing password resets, my 2006 account hasn't had any email about it and logs in fine.

The original owners likely reset the passwords.

It's strange, with my reddit accounts this never happened. Perhaps reddit sensed something amiss and blocked them? Maybe you should write in support?

It is really weird. I think that man who gave these accs to you have changed emails back. But why? He has provided it for free :/

Most likely the accounts were created from a flagged IP address. Skip out and move forward.

They are probably locked. One of my high karma accounts is not hacked nor shadowbanned. But I am not able to log in or reset pw.

I have never known this could be done BUT I guess it is true, so just open new accounts and move on.

I think it may be due to bad proxy or a bad account.

yes this may occurs sometimes due to your IP and bad accounts. For this problem you should use a good account with a good proxy.

there is a probablity that Reddit might have locked these accounts, because if they sense the Bot behavior from the account, then they don't hesitate in locking that account, and you can't reset the password.

Did you changed the connected email address when you were changing password? If not then he could turn it back using the email.
If yes there's probably another way to hack it, especially as he doesn't go online from that time.

Next time you'd better buy some services from people with a good statistics, ask others in his thread if someone bought something.
But on the whole even that not always help.
