Is it worth it to learn developing Apps/AR/VR from scratch?

These days I am thinking about to learn developing iOS/Android applications, also AR (augmented reality) and maybe VR.

Do you think its worth it to learn all from scratch? Or will there be softwares or systems like Wordpress, Joomla and so on, which will make it super easy to build Apps or create Virtual Reality places etc.? I know there are some websites and softwares helping to create iOS/Android applications, but it seems they can't really build complex and complicated ones.

Don't misunderstand my question please. I know Apps, VR etc. will be more important than ever in the future. My question is just if there will be softwares, which will make the building process super easy. For example today no one needs to learn html, css etc., because within a few minutes and clicks everyone can add content, change colors or build an entire website.

don't rely on other sources to get what you want. We don't know if there will be apps to create apps as each app has different functions. I rrcommend to learn Golang as it is very good language and it can be used to prpgram anything

Id go with Python. I'm not sure about AR or VR but there is modules like Kivy that are supposed to convert right to an .apk file for Android.

I say go with Python cause the learning curve is easier (for me anyway). I'm making my own Python game with Pygame right now in fact. Going to try Kivy at a later date when it's done to convert to .apk Plus its always more powerful to understand the code rather then using a GUI.

Good tutorials for Python and Pygame are from "kids can code" on Youtube. Taught me a lot about both Python and Pygame.

There will be always such thing like framework or whatever, to make new tech more easily to be used by developer... just think about it.

Unity is a powerful tool, you should go for it. Have a look at Vuforia to create AR/VR apps.

I cheat and use Space Engineers for my static 3d worlds lol. Used to use Blender , but I can make almost everything in Space Engineers I can in Blender and the physics is way better. Never used Unity, but I guess it is the go to for 3d/VR applications nowadays. I'm starting out slow with 2d games in Pygame right now. Think old school legend of Zelda or Super Mario.

In computer programming / software design, there tend to be trade offs between ease of use of a programming language/tool/other and the extent to which you can customize/optimize/micromanage what you're building.

Depends on what you actually want to do. If you want to make some specific app for a site you own, you might be fine with a free tool. If you plan to work with making apps regularly, it would be a good idea to start by learning some basic scripting.

It really depends on what "from scratch" means here. It would be excessive to go all the way down to writing https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Assembly_language; even low-level languages like https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/C_(programming_language) and https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/C%2B%2B are probably excessive for your use case.

You would probably want to learn at least some basic scripting. A good way to get started is to do some programming with https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Python_(programming_language) so that you can learn some basic programming concepts. Programming languages are all very similar conceptually. Learning a new programming language after you already know one is fairly straightforward. It is more like going from a Mexican dialect of Spanish to the dialect spoken in Spain than it is like trying to learn Chinese as an English speaker.

+1 for Golang, it's a very easy-learning language but can be very powerful !

I wholeheartedly disagree. Kivy is absolute shit for developing apps. It takes ages, they're unstable, the GUI can barely be changed, doesn't follow the usual Python syntax once you try to develop something actually useful with it and overall you're extremely limited.
Take it from someone who's been coding since he was 9 and worked as app developer and software engineer for 10 years before going freelance.

And, most importantly, your grandmother and elementary school girl across the street knows how to code in Python. There's no real value in it anymore.



@nakamura , if you want to develop for IOS, learn Swift. If you want to develop for Android, learn Java. Or C++.
If you want native mobile apps, that is. Hybrid apps aren't worth much.

If you want to get actual programming knowledge that will be useful in the job market and pays decently, start with C, C++, Java, JavaScript, Ruby or Golang.

React Native is really hot right now as you can develop both on Android and IOS simultaneously with it and it pays really, really well if you ever decide to get a normal job - but you have to figure most of the advanced topics out yourself as it's fairly new. But, to make up for that it's stable, got a great community, documentation and you have tons of packages for developing VR apps. Instagram uses it, Facebook uses it... well, they developed it. So.

Haha it's just the opposite reason why I don't like Python, no {} so you rely only on identation
