When to invest in KW/Backlink software?

I'm curious when any of you started to invest/paying for keyword software ie. Semrush, Moz, Ahrefs?

I'm trying to find the balance between making the proper investment in the tools to grow my site vs. throwing my money at software that may not be necessary at this stage of my blog.

At the moment I'm just starting to get traffic, (30-50/wk) and I wonder if I should rely on free software until I gain more traffic.

...I've taken advantage of free trials from Semrush and I'm currently testing out Moz. They're awesome tools but I'm not sure how productive or encouraging it is to check my traffic everyday, especially with such low traffic

It take a while before your kw is indexed and ranked. Also kwfinder is fine for budget, some people are doing $7/7 free trial with multiple accounts(ahref)

Buy what you NEED once you can afford to do so.

Ahrefs you can get the 7 day trial for $7 which is great if you don't have the budget to buy this tool

You don't need fancy tools like those, IMO, unless you manage big sites or client work. Use your budget on content and quality links (guest posts, outreach etc.). Google Search Console and Analytics is good enough for most people.

If you plan on doing a lot of keyword research then sure get a free 1 week/month trial of something other wise you can do a lot of keyword research using free tools/methods.

Build up your site first. You are better off spending money on quality content at this stage, once you start looking at the competition then look at tools.

Me too traveling on the same boat. I'm just sticking with Google keyword planner (previous version). It is working great for me because I'm using adsense for my blog. You can also use ubersuggest tool by Neil Patel.

Ahrefs is an excellent choice I'll say. If your budget is low then go for group buying of SEO tools it will save your money too.
It's entirely up to you in choosing what tool to use, I mean if you have planned the whole strategy then you must know which one be the better for you. If you're just a beginner or not familiar with all the features of tools, then don't invest early. First, let yourself learn everything about the tools and gather all the information/basics as much as you can. You can learn at YouTube and also from many high profile blogs. I think this little info may help you in this.

Ahrefs is an all-in-one SEO tools that can help you do all the tasks from keyword researching, backlink exploring and rank tracking...
It's really worth the price! If you have a budget to invest in SEO tools, just go for Ahrefs only and you will be fine.

I have to agree with AHREFs. At one pint I thought the price tag was a bit high (for me) but as you noted it’s a great all in one.

It’s really good for keyword research and finding opportunities for content among other things.

But to the point here is that this tools does wuite a bit and it’s actually saved me money despite my original thinking that the price was high.

It’s basically replaced product that I was paying for such as key word research and rank tracking tools

Just open a Semrush account for free and you will get what you need for free. Only thing is that you have only 10 clicks per day. Also, SemRush Keyword Magic Tool is on another level.

You shouldn't check the traffic and your keyword position every day. But since you are getting 30-50 visitors per week, so you should invest in ahrefs.

Thanks for the advice. I know checking traffic daily isn't productive but since its the only outside signal that I'm making progress it's hard to resist. But I agree and I've resolved to keep my head down and bang out quality content.

You can use google webmaster to know the recent stats of your website. If you need any tools mostly then buy it, as your site is new, don't waste your money on tools. Try to obtain as much you can through free tools. Also, extensions are available for browsers like seoquake, Moz bar etc., you can use that too.
