How to setup a proxy/vpn to use port 443

Hello everyone.

My office's firewall blocks many domains and any exiting connections that don't use ports 80, 8080 or 443.

I'm trying to use a proxy to bypass this firewall. My idea was to hire a private proxy that would listen on port 443, so that I setup Firefox to use it. That proxy would look like an average web server serving pages on HTTPS and firewall would let the connection pass.

But I'm having trouble finding a private proxy service that provides it on port 443, most use random 5 digit ports. One representative told me that web proxies don't work if they are listening on 443, and I should use a VPN - which would work on 443 - and setup a localhost proxy.

Is that correct? Could somebody help me find a solution that would allow me to exit this firewall?

uhm.. squid? you can just set it to listen to ANY port to begin with

Can't you use tor to take a proxy +port and configure your firefox/chrome to listen to that proxy/port?

It seems Squid currently relies on Cywgin to run on Windows. But I'm considering setting up a proxy on my home PC, more about it below.

I used Tor in the past, but it stopped working almost a year ago. I suppose they are blocking all pulic Tor relays.

If I have to setup a proxy server on my home PC, I'm considering 2 possibilities:

1) Setup a Tor private bridge. I used to run a bridge (non-exit relay) in the past. Yesterday I updated it to latest version and am testing it.

But Tor only publishes its SOCKS proxy on localhost, it's not available outside. So I'd need to find a config to solve that.

Also, Tor is too slow. It's ok when we want anonimity, but that's not my concern, so I'd rather use a faster solution.

2) Setup an HTTPS/SOCKS proxy and use my home PC as a proxy for my office PC. I'm just installing CCProxy now, and I'm open for proxy server suggestions.

The problem here is that my home internet connection isn't reliable enough. I'd rather hire a datacenter private proxy.

HTTP/HTTPS then, no speed loss there.

I'd rather hire a datacenter private proxy.

proxy6 seems decent for things like instagram, but theit subnets tend to get flagged all the time, at least by IG, so be careful.

Remember, no proxy provider can be better than your own proxy network

Thanks for proxy6 suggestion. Do you know if they offer SOCKS proxy on port 443?

I just noticed that Firefox has option to tunnel DNS requests into SOCKS. Then I think SOCKS is better for me, because then I can use an external DNS instead of my office's, which might not resolve domains being blocked.

I installed WinGate and tests seem good. If I set wrong port on Firefox it shows error, but if I use proper 443 port it connects nicely, and WinGate also shows activity monitor confirming the sites I access are passing thru it. Even Twitter, which keeps requesting server for new tweets, is being reported.

Now I need to be in an another network to test it.

Still, I'd rather hire a datacenter proxy. It's ok to have development environments on local PC, but for real use I prefere to have professionals. But on the other hand, it's as if I had dedicated residential proxy. And of course it's free.

I still don't understand why companies are denying proxies on port 443. I get HTTPS and SOCKS proxies aren't the same as HTTPS web server, but it's very easy to firewall block 5 digit ports.
