For almost a year I have been trying to rank a KW. I am not fully focused on this project however I noticed I could reach position 20 with PBNs however for the last couple of months no matter how many new PBNs I send it doesn't move.

What are the most common reasons for a KW to get stuck? Please assume I did my due dilligence and the PBNs are decent.

Is it a Low/Medium or High Competitive KW?
Also it is a long tail keyword? or short one?

Tough competition, not enough fresh content, lack of social media, lots of reasons can stand behind poor serp improvement.

It's a moderate KW - product name in a affiliate market. It is an inner page with 1500 words of content just like my competitors (even a bit more).
I feel like my link building strategy - PBNs coming along with social signals - is fine. Any idea/suggestions what could be done to get it unstuck?

Cheap, 1 time payment PBNs only have so much juice.
The keyword obviously requires more than that.
Build some good, quality PBNs, do some guest posts, get better juice.

Look at on page, is it as good as you think?

The obvious reasons are tough competition, not enough backlinks to move up, lack of unique content.

Not sure what is too many for you and also not sure about the quality of those too many ... are you sending 30 good PBN posts/month for few months and it is till not moving yet?

I think your site just lacks the authority - you'll need to bump up your ultra hq backlinks if you want to move up higher the SERP.
The links that you presently have from PBN - are just ordinary links that aren't making a cut for your website. Otherwise, if they are diverse and has hq factors, your site would gradually move up the serp without doubt - but it isn't, and that's the issue.
You'll need to diversify your link profile and include ultra hq links from sites like news sites, etc, and you'd notice immediate move upwards on the serp once these links are added into your site.

When was last time you added new content or tweaked existing content, out of interest?

PBN means private i.e. it’s custom made for you.

You can build homepage links, sitewide links and even redirects from it.

These links are never spoiled with bad neighborhoods. Their strength never decays. These links are way more relevant.

Are you speaking about these pbn links and not “package for 49 bucks” ?

If answer is yes, let me know and I’ll ask another question.

What is your KW % for your backlink profile?

Try using keyword variations instead of directly using main keywords right away. And try to mix up the link profile by adding some web 2.0 properties.

See what I am mainly concerned about is the fact that at the beginning the KW did not rank at all. With every new sent PBN link KW was moving up (every time!) till it reached position 15-20 and then it got stuck. I could send 10-20 more PBNs but it doesn't move any more.

This is a product review (inner page). The blog itself is updated on almost daily basis. This particular page hasn't been updated at all for a while. I did check my competitors and they haven't changed their content for months as well.

these all are my PBNs hosted by myself. clean and decent expired domains which I successfully use to rank other sites. it's just I never encountered a situation where I no more could move a KW up in spite of sending tens of new PBNs

What is your KW % for your backlink profile?

I think something around 6-8% which is pretty the same as my competitors

A part a too high competitiveness, It could be blocked by the algorithm - common causes:
over-optimization of the keyword (not sufficiently mixed with variants and brand keywords)
unnatural placement of the keyword (not contextual, looking artificial)

Ranking is a 3 part issue, with bcklinks helping out only with regards to originally positioning a page in the SERPs. The ranking has to win the beauty contest where it appears in the search results, and be more likely to be clicked based on its attractiveness. The content also has to be useful enough on the end page, or else users will use the back button, which will also bring down its ranking.
