OpenOffice or LibreOffice over MS Office?

Hey, how many of you use either OpenOffice/LibreOffice and can you give a review of how it is over MS word, excel and powerpoint?

Need to switch from MS office 2007.

Both of those are open source so that's a BIG advantage, other than that anything good over MS Office?

I've used LibreOffice for several years now. I can't say I noticed much of a difference between LibreOffice and MS Office nor have I noticed any limitations with LibreOffice.

I use both libreoffice and MS Office. The only thing i miss is some functions in excel, but i guess i just need to adjust and find em in libreoffice. Works great except for that!

Google can see whats in ur docs. A quick google search on the topic would tell u that. Even my first choice was google docs/sheets/slides but I changed my mind.

Yeah, you can open and save files in those formats with LibreOffice.

I use open office on one of my laptops which dont have microsoft office. Its workable, compatible with all files but misses a few functions and is a bit more basic than MS.

As far as i understand OpenOffice is discountinued, or a lot less updated than LibreOffice. I read up on it a while ago and understood that out of the two, one should go for LibreOffice. Atleast that was my conclusion.

Libre office is much faster and better.

I don’t think there is much difference, although setting money aside I’d still prefer ms office over any other desktop publishing suite if I had to chose.

So should I make the shift OR get an MS office subscription for only 9.99$ a month?

I just don't want bloody MS to spy on me and on the things I write in Word, excel, powerpoint, and others.

Office 2016 costs like $5 on ebay. And you can get lifetime 365 here for like $10.

But libre is great, and its free. try it and see for urself. I still havent decided so i use both.

You do realize that those ebay sellers and the seller here on BHW are adding you to a random family account from anywhere in the world, right? That is NOT suitable for business purpose.

He/She, i.e., the seller in BHW is adding you to a family MS office account where you have no "full" control. The MAIN owner of the account can anytime disable your account and you would have to get a new account.

How are they doing it? MS office's subscription states it is for 5 people aka 5 family members in a family per one account and the sellers are selling to 5 individual people, so huge profit lol.

Tried every one of them, but I stopped at OnlyOffice. It has everything what is needed for basic usage of offices, it can open pretty much any format documents, you can save it to whatever type you need.

Openoffice screwed me so many times, with random crashes, so openoffice is big NO NO.

Why to switch from MS Office? Used OpenOffice when I was in 9-5 job it was good just not much customizations was available over it.

Open Office is a relatively good alternative to MS Office but they don't compare.

I would only consider MS Word if you're handling a lot of docs from other parties.
