I would say ....Bing if you want to go directlink, correct ? And yes that way you will get much more conversions probably than with lander by my own experience cause people on Bing are more eager to convert. Such audience, yes, there are much less of them.

Bing for USA traffic, Adwords for all others.

so, what stop some affiliate marketer's from purchasing domain name in order to redirect/forward their affiliate link.

You can do this less than $5 but, it will help you save ton's of $$$ prior launching your adwords campaign.
Atleast, this method look's more professional not only to google but, also to your targeting audience.
