I know BHW has some superb SEO leaders, am curious to know how do you guys get SEO clients Thru upwork Or locally?

Locally is working for me, it's easy and it's a huge market where I live.

Localy, or as you mentioned on a Freelancing websites...or self promotion on social media

When I started it was easy to get local clients, nobody did SEO.

Now you gotta do online marketing to gain clients as well.

I hope you’re bagging any clients, putting your nuts on their face at the first meeting is a bad idea.

If you mean “get” clients, just network. A lot. And cold call, walk to businesses. I had $0 in the bank when I bagged my first client, a cool $600/month. Hey, back then it paid rent and some food.

For ORM, my initial client was through Reddit. Since then, a few were from BHW contacts, and others were based on referrals from the first guy.

For local SEO, I go high quality or don't go at all, so my plan is to do the following:

1) Build up a site in their sector that ranks higher than their own.
2) Send ten businesses in that sector personalized letters a la 7878, showing them what I can do, how their results stack up, a market analysis, and let them know that I sent similar letters to nine of their competitors, and I'm only going to be working with one of them.
3) Charge them $2,500+ per month for full service local SEO.
4) Repeat with a new sector in the same local market.

Fingers crossed on that one.

Word of Mouth Is a Classic Marketing Strategy for a Reason and Don’t Forget to Add a Contact Form to Your Site.

Local canvassing should still be the best method in most places, given there are still a lot of small businesses who have not gotten around to setting up a site, or have not created one that is effective at generating traffic and leads.
