Supercharged Backlink Experiment - Results so far

Update:

4 Days ago, I reported that my rankings had recovered somewhat. I'm now happy to report that for 2 days and counting, they have returned fully to their original positions.

My site is based on the subpages ranking for a different keyword each. Many of my subpages are back in the top half of page 1 for their target keywords. These are not long tail keywords.

What I've done:

  • Continued adding high PR low OBL backlinks to the homepage, but at a slightly reduced rate.

  • Added 2 or 3 high PR low OBL backlinks to each of my former top ranking subpages. This seems to have restored their position.

I was reluctant to report that I'd bounced back fully because of an effect I've noticed, usually referred to in the stock markets as the dead cat bounce. This describes a situation where you're tossed in the sandbox, re-appear for a few days, then disappear forever. I will let you know if I retain my position.

Will be waiting for more updates.

I think everything also keeps coming back to content. I also look forward to doing some tests.

I spoke to somebody recently that got deindexed for building a lot of links with social bookmarks these def seem to be getting scrutinised badly atm.

What is most interesting to me is trying to create a bulletproof linking strategy to use for white hat stuff.

:)

@Stevesdata,

You where talking to me with the social bookmarking.

for other people, this is what i did:

- I've made some quality web2.0 properties (squidoo, blogger, hubpages) for low competitive keywords
- just after creation, i've bookmarked them all to 25 different pr5+ bookmarking sites.

When i checked back in google they where indexed within 1 hour, so thats not really bad. They where ranking "OK" (page 1-3) for the targeted keywords.

but... when i check back now (5days later) they are de-indexed from google... Can anyone confirm this could be normal behaviour for new web2.0 properties?

Also I made a few high quality blog comments pr5 onpage. This doesnt seem to have changed anything.

Well.. maybe i just have to wait few more weeks to see if my properties are perma sandboxed by google :(

as stevesdata said... a bulletproof linkbuilding strategy is what we need... with some good testing i think we can get there.

I've been following this closely, its probably the best thread I've seen during the last few months I've been at BHW. Primarily because - instead of just conjecture it contains a relatively accurate experiement and solid results.

I'm keen to hear if you are still back up in the SERPS.

What I really want to know is how you found your extremely low OBL but high pr do follow blogs. Are you using the method you outlined in a (great!) post a while back? To do with finding a high pr do follow blog, identifying a distinguishing operator to search google for to find more similar blogs?

If not I definately don't expect you to reveal your method!

I've been working that way for a while now and have a large list of high pr do follow blogs, however they are all spammed pretty heavily with hundreds of OBLs.

Still trying to think outside the box and work out how to find these kinda blogs before everyone else gets there and spams them :s

I'm happy to report that my SERP position is better than ever. I rank in the top 3 for a good number of high competition keywords.

It's all in my thread on how to find backlinks. I've just been doing it for a long time. If you stick at it, your fortunes will definitely improve. The key to the method is performing a site: search when you find a good domain, and using seoquake to dientify the high PR pages. To find the sites that haven't been spammed heavily is just a question of perseverence. Keep going and you will come out with what you're looking for.

On a more general note, I have recently launched a major new backlinking campaign on the new site. The focus this time is not PR but relevancy. I am ignoring PR (for the moment) and trying to make my backlink profile look more legitimate by getting links from relevant pages. The price to pay, usually, is that they don't happen to have a decent PR but I am hoping relevancy alone will carry some weight.

However, I am still sending low OBL high PR links to the site when I come across them. Since my last update, I created 3 new linkwheels around subpages, 10 properties each.

I'll keep posting further developments here.

It was good speaking to you.

Haven't seen you online for a while I had mob internet probs.

I think it might be good to discuss footprints. We all know when linkbuilding it is worth:

Changing IPs
Dont use G00gle Analytics
Dont use gma1l
Dont use big g toolbar
Dont be logged into big g anything
Host your sites on diff IPs
Avoid javascript footprints e.g. using the same analytical stats codes on same sites
Avoid ads3nse on linked sites
Diversify links e.g. links packs like Angelas when ppl start using the same combination's of links that seems to mean sandbox / deindex
I am also hearing more companies are looking at MAC / network card IDs like the software companies have been doing for a while

It would be very good to find out how some backlinking techniques are being flagged.

@ Micallef will have to check your link thread. Would be good to link to it in this thread.

:)

I never change my IP when spamming, I'm always signed into gmail and I use it to register with spam sites. Do you see this as a problem? I can't really see it myself.

This is a simple write-up of how I get my backlinks:

Its not a big problem but it is a footprint.

Members have reported that they think it has linked sites together. I suppose it depends what you are doing. Many members seem to be getting increasingly paranoid about how linked the big g services are. More and more I have been recommended to avoid big g anything while link building as a precaution.

The more white hat your activities the less it matters I think. In your case I cant see anything too black hat about what you are doing, other than building links aggressively (I assume you arent doing anything too bh with your sites).

:)

yes the sandbox is temporary, but it is frustrating also Micallef you got good info

3) Concentrated powerful links (not necessarily clean) into web 2.0 ----> into money site... I will post as I find out.

I'm curious to see what your results are since this is similar to the method I've stared using.

I haven't been focused so much on powerful links, but more mass links --> web 2.0 --> money site.

I guess the name to this game is build up the authority of the web 2.0 sites which should in turn boost up the money sites, but if something goes wrong the money sites are still clean and it's only the web 2.0 sites that are lost.

OK(Otto Kaizer).

I will show some stuff from my little experience.

At may I launched new site on weight loss niche. Platform is wordpress. Added 10 researched, keyworded articles. Posting some new ones time to time. Now have maybe 40.

I added my site to directories and bookmarked one article.
As usual - google loves new content, so they gave me some rankings on 1 or 2 page.

I was getting about 10 U/D.

And now starts really valuable info.

Then I made one presell targeted for good keyword.

Started building links with thelinkjuicer (some social networks and software portals).

My site disappeared from google :)
google webmaster tools says even now, that my site is indexed.

I started my battle (wrong way):

I made maybe 100 backlinks from everywhere with senuke(social networks, blog networks....). Also made links with article post robot. Everything was pinged, bookmarked and added to rss aggregators. Of course randomly.

What I think is wrong in every bit of what I did - MAKE YOUR LINKS FOR YOUR PRIMARY DOMAIN AT FIRST.

So now I'm making high PR comments(bought from DP, even it's expensive, but I don't have time, because of my offline job) straight to domain with random anchors.

I will make that for one month.

Don't know, but I think strategy wich wouldn't FAIL is:

1)Have aged domain from www.freshdrop.net
2)Make big index of your site and add stuff daily
3)Create money pages with big amount of good text(700-1200)
4)Make 5 links each day to your primary page, 3 links to your money page and 2 links to your indexed articles.
5)Create backlinks from everywhere(Software, guest blogging, article submission, video, web 2.0 properties, social networks, even audio).
6)Backlink anchors must have different versions.
7)Articles where you put backlinks must be spinned.
8)When you put different articles to same web 2.0 property like squidoo, make that on the same account. It will grow your network.
9)Make that each day for two months and then see if you have even little improvement.

10)Most important thing: Make your money plan - how much you can spend money for articles, what you can outsource and list goes on, because your money page must have outstanding quality for good conversion - it will make your ROI faster.

What you think about my problem with site and hypthesis about bullet-proof strategy?

---UPDATE---

You must check your competition in serp before you do anything with linking to your presells.
If your competition has 100 links in average, pr2 and aged domainsof 4 years, then you will need aged domain, similar pr and x5/x10 times more links, because google will index 5/10 time smaller number of your links. Also just idea.

Today started bum marketing with 15 articles. Then will strengthen them with uniquearticlewizard and myarticlenetwork.

BTW - high PR comments are silent for now.

Any information on the Sandbox effect? This is probably my only obstacle that keeps me from seeing some clear results.

My website got indexed very quickly on rank #4, surrounded by aged domains with high PR's. After a few days it just disappeared, nowhere to be found unless i type the exact URL with quotes.

Probably got indexed fast because it had the keywords in the URL itself, but once it got checked by Google employees and since it didn't have much content(+it was an affiliate website) it got Sandbox'd.

Now i need to find out how to overcome this and how long it'll exactly take to get me out of the Sandbox and atleast rank in some of the pages.

Please post your results here!

For that problem I think I will do two things:

1. I will make autoblog on subfolder to increase index heavily. For variation will put some PLR and original content.

2. As google really loves article directories and article distribution I will blast my articles which are pointing to my sites main and inner pages with high PR comments so it will be something like this:

High PR comment>Article in ezinearticles(or other)>my site.

I think sandbox is just last step to own google - some training arena.

My articles are coming in couple of days so I think I will be able to post some results in two, three weeks. Now we can only discuss on that.

Thanks alot micalef for your experiment .. I am working on a similar experiment, using a network of websites. However I am not split testing methods as you are, so I will report back on my method later on to let everyone know my results.

I've posted my findings on the Google sandbox effect here:

I would suggest anyone using this method also try senuke. It is a very great tool for natural backlinking with sorts of sites including social network, bookmarking, and rss feeds

Micallef great information.

I've noticed the same things myself. I recently tried inbound linking from PR2-5 sites. I am doing 2-5 links per day. After 30 days I am back on the first page of Google for the keywords I am trying to rank for. I was briefly sandboxed around 2-2.5 weeks into the link building.

Why is direct linking dangerous.

What gave you the idea this wouldn't work?

All you're doing is normal backlinking i see nothing to experiement with.... or have you been buying 10,000 backlinks for a domain or something?

There's nothing special you just build a few links.

100-200 links usually takes you to the top in a niche if you do it properly.

Still don't understand all the fuss
