19, from Germany, Studying economic psychology atm, working part time for an online marketing company as a seo article writer but I'm hoping to make a decent income from home in the future :)
 
24, I thrive my own company, offering articles and blogs. I'm also available as a journalist, as I graduated in journalism this year :). Currently I'm exploring on web radio and how to monetize it. Radio is the biggest love of my live..

West Sussex, went to Portsmouth. Realised I liked the subject but not to an academic level and that I wanted to work for myself. Dropped out in December. Best decision I've made.

Taught myself IM/Digital Marketing. Crazy to think university's are charging £9,000 a year for what I taught myself for free and what anyone can teach them self online.

I see, did you study digital marketing then? I didn't even know they taught that... but you are right - the topic is too new for people teaching it to have any experience.

Save yourself the money and gain the experience you need, after 2-3 years you'll easily could get a job for 22-25k.
 
Full-time IMer for myself.

Nationality Austria (Europe... not Australia :anyway:). At the moment conducting business in Singapore, Hong Kong and Thailand.

No, I studied International Relations. Probably should of mentioned that. But yes they actually do a digital marketing degree. I looked through the course and it looks so easy and basic.

It changes so frequently and it's a massive subject also. You really need to specialise in a paticulpar area to make the big money.

That's what I hate about our society it's all grades and degree focused yet something like digital marketing is all about experience and knowledge yet unless you have a degree you got no chance. Which is one of the main reasons I decided to go it alone and start my own projects, and now this startup I'm working on, and do a part time job to fund it.

What area DM are you in? Do you work for yourself?

Yeah agreed, I was tricked into getting a degree in law. Not because I was interested in it, but because it "looks good" on paper. Weird society. Least you'e got a part time job to fund this, most people make this mistake... not getting one and being broke af.

East midlands, near Nottingham. And yeah I work for myself full time, mainly client SEO, some affiliate stuff.

My advice to you would be find one niche of a market and dominate it, I wish someone told me that earlier. Instead of offering seo/web design for every niche - just focus on one niche and become the absolute best - or atleast the top 5. Accountants/plumber/solicitor/insurance/ w.e niche, just focus on one.
 
Its nice to see what fellow forum members are doing in real life.

I dropped from the med university after my 7th year there. Started IM back when I was on the first year and didn't really focus on my studies. I still managed to pass years but with a poor medical backround and knowledge.

Currently 100% doing IM while reading daily a couple of articles related to medicine. I plan to remain that way but I would love to go back to university and continue the last 2 years I still have.

Yep I learnt that the hard way. I've focused in on a niche now and it helps so much. Even for the startup im working on we started on a broader niche and niche down and there's so much less competition.

I'm not in the SEO Agency/Company game, was thinking of it though, but was wondering how much outreach you do now? I'm guessing you have a lot of referrals now?
 
I'm 19. I only work during the summer. I manage my apartment and rent it out to tourists,I rent my 3 boats to tourists and I work in my dads restaurant
The rest of the year I'm all in on IM and this year I'm planning to open an agency
 
I’m 30. I live in Glasgow in Scotland. I run a pest control company and launched my seo agency last year.

The realisation that I would be running around from building to building my whole life fixing people’s problems but with no hope of early retirement or a better work life balance is what made me get into IM.

I make a good living with pest control but IM is like a drug. It’s just so bloody cool what you can do with your wits and effort online.

I’m now trying to increase my seo client base and work on my own in house online/ eccomerce ideas.

The dream is to have a good IM related income with staff running the day to day operations of my pest control business.
