I haven't heard of a viable alternative to massplanner's 'discovery' tools. Scheduled posting/publishing aren't all that important since there are tons of other software doing those tasks. MP's appeal was its ability to find groups and pages.

Personally, I'd like a tool that discovers groups but also discovers popular content and classifies them by niche/category

it is very easy to find groups pages? just search and get name, type, members all public DATA? no other tool can do such thing?
