You want a landing page to get leads , otherwise your impressions without sales are just wasted.
Im sure some people or success full direct linking.
But the thing is say you get 1000 clicks and 1 converions to a sale by direct linking.
If you had a landing page and got 1000 clicks , 200 e-mails from you landing page and 1 sale.You are 200 e-mails richer to promote to.People with big enough quality mailing list make enough that way without spending money on advertising.
There is a thread in here a guy e-mailed 1600 e-mails he got last year from landing pages wich netted him $300 from such an old small list with just 1 e-mail blast with 18% bounce rate.

You are really going to have better success having a blog or website. I have heard of people being able to do what you are proposing without, but it doesn't make sense to short-change yourself. Don't be lazy, do it right and you will save yourself more time in the long run.

A simple landing page would be fine right? or does it really have to be a blog?

like us, there are quie a few programs out there now that offer a free pre lander on a sub domain. If you are promoting your affiliate link itself through snapchat for example, when you attach it, it will redirect the link and you wont be blasting out a trackable link. So I would say look for programs that offer a free sub domain on the offer.
