Thinking about getting into article writing, I definitely need to make some extra cash... Is it too saturated to get into? any advice will be appreciated...

In your opinion whats the best way to start, sites that pay you or making your own site and marketing for clients ? Any good article writing resources, courses or guides that you would recommend to a person trying to learn and get involved in article writing ?

I would make my own website and start from there.

If you have never written before and are serious maybe look into a creative writing course at a local college. The professors there will give you valuable feedback on your writing.

These days article writing for others pays so little you're better off starting your own website like cjthefish said. Look for an affiliate product you can write at least 20 articles on and even if you use a free website you should make more money from your writing over time.

I also lost in making this decision. However, even after launching my own blog and publishing say 20 articles, when then is the next step in making money with them.

You could create a writing service here and see how it goes.

You prob want to get a profile started on text broker and upwork. Specialize! What's your background?

It really depends on how well you write, how quickly you write, and what price you will ask for a 100 words. For example, if your writing is outstanding, and you ask for $2.00 or lower, you'll get a lot business.

And like @hero76 said, the best step would be to start a market thread here. You'll need a website so that people can order through your website and that you can accept payments.

Article writting it is tough but you can always get a WP blog for cheap and give it a try

Also make sure your English semantics are above average. I’ve hired writers before who could not figure out their versus they’re.

You're not going to make good money here.

I love this site, but this ISN'T the place to sell article writing services if you're serious about a career in writing. Every single time I check the marketplace here I die a little bit on the inside.

If you're good then you need to start pitching. Start grinding. Make a stellar portfolio. Stand out from the pack by having skills other than content writing. I'm going to level with you here: you don't need to be a great writer to make a good living writing.

You just need to be able to format things, hit deadlines, and offer a little bit more than the people around you.

For a beginner Upwork is relatively easy to get into. I think there's been some trouble there recently for new writers due to market saturation. I'd avoid Freelancer. The only job I got from there was from some backwards ass SEO agency that was taking four days at a time to get back to me, paying 25% of my usual rate and wanted me to commit some serious keyword jamming which would have ended up hurting their client.

I was banned from UpWork awhile back but I was making better than a full time minimum wage job there within a month of starting working about twenty hours a week. It's a viable way to go if you can get accepted.

Otherwise, ProBlogger has a decent job board and agencies advertise their on occasion. I've gotten into two in a couple of months with minimal effort and it pays decently in between my usual projects.

If anyone tells you writers aren't getting paid then they're full of crap or engaging in the bidding war which dominates marketing websites. If you're serious about it then there's a lot of money to be made in high-end content.

Try working for a copywriting company. That's the easiest way to learn. Your employer will guide you.

There are hundreds and thousands of websites created every minute. So, there should ideally be no shortage of work ( if you are good at your work)

You can start with www.iwriter.com

They pay weekly.

Don't bother with Upwork and places like that, they are content mills and you will be working all the hours God sends for a pittance.

Also, I have heard of writers being refused on Upwork because they have enough writers on there already.

Read Julia McCoy's book Practical Content Strategy and Marketing.

Start your own website, get on Linked In, fb etc and cold email clients.

Good luck :)

i love bhw.. for people that keeps in supporting like this a million thanks.. :) specially to the owner Diamond

Yes, article writing is over-saturated, but everything is over-saturated nowadays, so that shouldn't be a deterrent. Its about finding creative and unique ways to monetize. With all the skilled article writers online, there still doesn't seem to be a defined leader in the space, there isn't an article writing service that is top notch over all the article writing services. There isn't a mass number of people who would all recommend the same article writing service. My point is, although its over-saturated there is still plenty of room to grow in the article writing space. Find your niche in the market. Grow your brand, stay consistent and produce quality ... you should be fine.

No, it's not too saturated. In fact, opportunities are better than ever before.

More and more companies are coming online and the demand of freelance writers is going through the roof.

Thank you.
I have a masters degree in English with honours but no portfolio. What would you suggest?

I think it's not a bad idea, you can earn some extra cash, but you need to find the good client :)
