Hey everyone.

I hate to say or think this, but it seems like the end is near for my Facebook Page, unless I can manage to figure out the problem, hopefully with your help. And maybe this can help others too.

So I have a Facebook Page with around 1 million likes, all genuine. This Page has been up and running since 2015 and it always had great reach (100k-500k) and engagement (5%-20%) on all types of posts, until recently.

Since mid-April, reach on URLs & Videos has been really low. It went from the usual 100k-500k to 20k-100k, and it never picked up after that. This is also reflected in my web site's Pageviews which have gone down around 60% from last year. And while my Page is still somewhat surviving, the situation in simply getting worse and worse, and each new day seems to be hitting new lows. The only type of post that's still getting great reach is photos.

I read a lot of things in the forums about clickbait penalties and Pages losing reach, but I doubt my posts are flagged as clickbait. and I'm also well aware of the recent algorithm changes. But this drastic drop seems like it's a bit too much, and I fear there might be something else affecting my Page.

So what I'd like to know is if you've had any similar experiences and if you found solutions that got your reach back up. Or maybe you simply have thoughts to share or questions to ask me to which I'll happily provide answers as best as I can.

Thank you.

I would suggest that you continue posting more related photos and more interesting links from your site (with engaging captions; ask questions etc) on a consistent and timely manner.

Thanks sandandkush. We haven't changed anything regarding our posts an they always worked like a charm. We post mostly lists (20 cats that look like celebrities), funny articles and articles about subjects like family / art / animals. But our content is always fresh and has always appealed to our audience. This drastic drop in reach seems to be Facebook's fault, and I'd really like to know if other people experienced the same thing recently and how they tackled the problem.

Yes. I have experienced this from time to time.

I would usually take a look at the insights to research what content works best.
Also take a look at your links' titles, and posts captions as mentioned, while trying to use different terms.

Title testing such as:
20 Cats That Look Like X Celebrities (See the Photos)
Shocking Photos: 20 Cats That Look Like X Celebrities
20 Cats Look Like X Celebrities In These Photos

This is not a surprise, especially because it's common among many users. However, you need to innovate, or see which of the existing techniques you're doing is still working. But if none of them are working anymore, go for viral posts related to your niche. Stimulate engagement by modifying the caption/description of your posts..

just use traffic bait headings .

anyt content that being used
from buzzfeed or google trends

will work

I think you are referring to organic reach. Facebook is restricting organic reach nowadays and lowering it by up to 80%-90% thus forcing paid advertising to reach your followers. In fact back in 2013, Facebook has already mentioned this clearly. In 2013, a sales deck was obtained by Ad Age which was supposed to be sent out to partners of facebook. The below is the message. And bearing in mind, this was in 2013. Fast forward to 2018, I am not surprised that Facebook is going full stream ahead on restricting organic reach to prevent marketers from profiting through free traffic. Why don't you consider alternative platform such as IG whereby organic reach is still great?

"We expect organic distribution of an individual page's posts to gradually decline over time as we continually work to make sure people have a meaningful experience on the site."

In the document, titled "Generating business results on Facebook," the paragraph in which the impending drop-off in organic reach is revealed concludes with an ad pitch; marketers are told they should consider paid distribution "to maximize delivery of your message in news feed."

The three-page document also contains a section that repositions how marketers should think about fan acquisition: as a tool for making paid advertising more effective. While free distribution of content is mentioned, it's the third business benefit listed after "improve advertising effectiveness" (through ads with social context, which is enabled by a substantial fan base) and "lower cost for paid distribution" (since Facebook makes it cheaper to deliver ads with social context.)

In other words, the main reason to acquire fans isn't to build a free distribution channel for content; it's to make future Facebook ads work better.

"Your brand can fully benefit from having fans when most of your ads show social context, which increases advertising effectiveness and efficiency," the document states.

Hello, i am dealing with this problem too since 10 May 2018. After the disastrous summer of 2017 when thousand pages dealed with 0 organic reach, which we manage to solve, now we have this! We post external links, photos and 1 video per day. We managed gradually to increase the reach during the winter and achieve very good levels in Feb-Mar-May until the 10/5/2018 when it dropped significantly. It recovered partially. The situation is very disappointing. About a week later, it seemed that reach has been totally recovered but it lasted for a few hrs.

In one of our pages we stopped publishing for abt 10 days. Nothing has changed in organic reach.

Needless to point out that we have not click baits, strange titles etc. We are very careful with those things.

Is a matter of luck? Is Facebook leading us to the end? Nobody can tell for sure.

You can't blame facebook.....they want more $$$....its all about the $$$.

I pay for FB ads and boosts... I've got some bad news for you, reach is down across the board.

FB will mostly be pay to play unless your content (VIDEOS do best) is really topnotch and you focus on BRANDING

The old gravy train of free FB Page traffic is on its way out

Same issue on me too. I run a 4milions network and my reach in links is 70% off. I think my domain is penalised. When I posts with new or old domains the reach is good.

Why don't you change the domain used since you already know the cause for the drop in reach?

I'm tied to it. All my branding is done around it in 10 years time. I'm getting 40k direct traffic but I need the facebook's one too.

How can you check if your domain has been penalised?

Try not to post the same link in many pages. Use to post links from a domain on maximum 2 pages... On other pages you can post by sharing the link from the main page :)

Continue to post... from a time to time its like that... i expirience the same, but its comming back to normal... they are doing a lot of testing... and this is why that happens.... But dont stop... you have to post regular posts everyday... one video, one image, two links... and you should be good...

Every page has it's own subdomain

I too have a huge drop in reach since a week. I tried several domain names but no change; I think it's my pages that are affected, it's sad

Something seems to be going wrong the last 2 hrs with organic reach. It shows them with a big delay, others seems to be on 0 but they have got likes and shares
