OBL mysteries : the real limits

I want to organize my guest blogging. To get high quality backlinks, I know I need low OBL websites.

I searched in the whole forum for hints about the OBL restrictions and find some clues (that seem contradictory):

1. The OBL must be 20% of a whole site or it's not worth it.

2. No more than 20-30 OBL per site.

3. The OBL ratio is per page.

4. No more than 3-5 OBL per page.

Is there a veteran(s) that could share his(their) experience about these rules?

There is no such rule. The main rule is you do not want to look like a spam site, so only link out to what makes sense in reasonable quantity.

4. 5 in a blog post is fine, could be up to 10 or more for a long post if you link out to credible sources.

Conclusion: do not fixate on OBL, fixate of what a top site would do.

Edit: the exception to this rule is if your are a PBN seller, which I do not think you are, then OBL<12 if what I would offer, in other words guaranteed limited space.

Edit2: but even for PBN sellers there are 2 kinds of OBL: OBL1 to money sites, and OBL2 to authority sites, so here we would say OBL1<12 and OBL2 does not really matter (but some people like OBL2>OBL1).

I'll try to be clearer.

I want to get backlinks from blogs by guest posting, so I need to evaluate if I can get a lot of SEO juice from them.

I've reed multiple times that the OBL of the blogs I'll contact have a big influence on the juice I'll get. I want a rule of thumb. Since some thread tell to focus on number or % of OBL on the whole site (and other say the same but for the pages), I don't understand which one I should take.

Conclusion: do not fixate on OBL, fixate of what a top site would do.

What do you mean? Traffic and strong inbound links?

I'm searching how to evaluate the blog links potential. I thought the number of OBL (vs total links) was a key metric but you make me doubt.

When you want to do guest posting, OBL is a minor concern. The main concern is quality of the blog, is it spammy, is it authoritative, etc. Regarding SEO metrics, people usually start with DA, TF, RD, age, traffic, etc.

So OBL is not a major concern, the concern is how good the blog is. So do I want a guest post on a DA 60 with 200 OBL? Yes I do. Do I want a guest post on a DA 15 with 10 OBL? Not really.

Conclusion: do not fixate on OBL, just look how good the blog is overall, using multiple metrics.
Conclusion2: there are no "ratio"; some folks created the concept of "ratios", which are arbitrary, unfounded, unproven and useless.

OBL is a metric yes, to be used in context; it you see a crappy PBN then they may have 100+ OBL, sometimes 250+ OBL, just on the homepage; so you see with your own eyes this is crap.
For guest posting the number 1 tool to use is your eyes:what do you see: junk or quality? this is the question. And of course it will be very hard to get approved on top quality blogs, so you have to manage your own expectations.
