It used to be a lot shorter, so be glad you were born now and not hundreds or thousands of years ago and enjoy what time you get.
To answer your question, cells age and deteriorate. Not much we can do about it except keep working on scientific advances - even then life extension will be marginal for a long time to come.
And that's not factoring in if you get hit by a bus or something - life is cut short in lots of ways, and a freak accident can occur at any time. Such is life.

Our creator was a simple guy, he just rounded the numbers. He thought "well if everything goes perfect you can make it to around 100, if you don't take care of yourself cut that in half and die at 50".
Of course you could always die from something random so who knows, this might not even be real.

Average human life has increased a lot . It used to be in 40s, now most diseases curable, people die less in war. Wait for thousand year, maybe then human dont have to die.

there is no short or long, this concept itself is artificial, or time even, does not really exist.
