How about you listen to an interview, and listen to how he talks about his local community, and what he actually does for the community unlike the big "pop stars" he's a really genuine dude, yeah he might sound a bit cocky, but it's rap, when hasn't a rapper ever been cocky, this dude does some real shit to help poor people out and that's a good thing regardless of what anybody says

I'm too young to have had the chance to grow up with old school rap and in general the era before the internet and social media, so this is just my shitty unusual opinion.
I believe egocentrism, narcism, in general the 'flexing' culture to have completely taken over popular music, and yeah rap is the new pop music now. Lyrical and instrumental quality aside, I think rappers today are striving to be something they are not to attract as much appeal and fame, while in the past I think musicians in general were a bit more in tune with who they really were. Mass appeal is the easiest (fastest) way to musical entrepreneurship, thanks to social media, and all of us know well what the common denominator of the Anglo-Saxon population is, some mediocrity that will settle for 'ok' music because its cool. Gary Vaynerchuk said this modern rap is just a different form of entrepreneurship. As such, I see music production today, in this given time, to be the way it is because popular culture is about 'brands' and not the 'product'. I hope you get what I am saying. All of these rappers are a brand.

I've been a metal kid for most of my life, only got into rap a year ago. I like Bones, Lil Skies, Merkules (thanks @Billy Batts), someone mentioned $uicideboy$, I like them too if you are into dark depressing shit. There's something for everyone I guess.
