If you live in EU, and you're datas has been hacked on BHW server, yes. But if you got hacked because someone just found you passwords or because you entered your email in a phishing page or if someone hacked your computer etc.. you can't, as BHW is not responsible.

actually you can live anywhere but you need to be a EU citizen, so if you are born in Germany but living in the US it applies to you, you don't have to access a site from the EU you just need to be a EU citizen

Why do you think its not important? In my opinion its really quite important!

Perhaps because it is pretty much an entirely paperwork exercise.

How is anything going to change with this? Spammers outside the EU are still going to spam, spammers within the EU will probably just spoof their location if they were not already and hackers are still going to hack.

The law is not really going to change much, some larger companies will get sued if the data breached is significant enough to impact the rights of the people whose data has been stolen.

Remember how the CAN-spam act stopped everyone from receiving unwanted emails? Remember how much better the internet is now with every website having a cookie notice obscuring the view (especially on mobile)?

Nah me neither. I don't see much change either way because of those laws, I don't think this law will be much different.

That's true, all my and my clients sites are as compliant as they can be. Even down to the right to be forgotten forms, not much more I can do now

That's the point. At least your clients have you, who understands compliance and can aid them or guide them wherever necessary.

But there are people in this thread who run their own websites and most likely do everything on their own. \

GDPR is a heavily discussed topic on the forum and yet people are clueless about it. Wonder what they read? SMH.
