How much should a good back massage cost?

A local place I've been to several times in the past charges around $60 an hour for a deep tissue massage and $50 an hour for a Swedish massage, which comes out to between $60-$72 or more, depending on how much you tip. From what I understand, that pricing is fairly standard out where I live, unless you go to one of those higher-end places in hotels that charge $100/hour or more.
It's a full-body massage (NOT that kind of massage; I don't do that), but you can ask them to focus mainly on your back like I do.

The pricing out there is comparable to what we have here in India. A decent place will charge you $60ish an hour for a deep tissue massage.
And yet again, the Spas inside luxury hotels can go double that easily.
Makes you think - Luxury prices across the world are almost always comparable no matter the economy or the spending-capacity of the genpop.

That's interesting, I've always wondered if it was more expensive where I live.
The most expensive place that isn't in a hotel in my area charges $110/hour for a Swedish massage. The same place offers a Thai massage for $120/hour. But the rest of the spas are around $60/hour.

in the uk and i think usa you can find local comnuity swimming pools that also offer massarge at a better rate then private places.
$40/ hr about right .
anythink above is just rediclous.
home visit $60 upwards.
i am sure you can get many quotes from google .
a lot of chineese medication herb shops other cheap massarge services .
in the uk alot of the places are hidden whore homes , to get a proper massarge i sugest local commuity gym advise
and be very carefull a messarge can desfigure bones not done correctly .

And here I was of the opinion that massages would be way costlier over there. Here's an example of a place I visit quite frequently. It's called Aroma Thai and it's a day spa located in major malls across the country. Here's their Menu Card.

The pricing was slightly updated around 6 months ago and it's about 20% more expensive now. As you can see, a Deep tissue is INR 3310 for an hour - which is approximately $49 (It's slightly higher now).
Add to it 18% GST and you easily cross $60.
Aroma Thai is one of the better priced non-hotel venues out there. There are several that cater to a very exclusive clientele and easily charge double that.
Also, the term "massage parlour" is quite often looked down upon in India. Mainly because a lot of them have sprung up in seedy sections of the city and double up as fronts for prostitution. Since it isn't their main source of income, they charge you a nominal fee for massage services, but then you're massaged by a highly-untrained sex worker who cannot wait for you to ask for her "other services".

It is so common that a person genuinely interested in massage only might get disappointed at many places.

Here's the real kicker: I live in a city that caters to the upper-middle class, yet the prices are still cheap.
I didn't know that. I often refer to legitimate places as "spas" since I associate the term "massage parlour" with those shiesty "happy ending" place.
I have an uncle who went to a happy ending parlour by mistake. He thought he was getting a legitimate $20 massage (seriously), but then the woman started rubbing him down. My uncle is a philanderer, so he took the offer and tipped her $100.

It's actually pretty apparent. It'd take a very special type of a simpleton to not be able to determine that the place is seedy as fuck and still strip down over there.
Oh! And @Zwielicht I forgot to mention the "Kerala Ayurvedic Massage Clinics". These are legit clinics with professional masseurs performing an Ayurvedic Massage using essential oils. They're incredibly cheap, but not everyone's cup of tea. You won't get the "luxury" aspect in there, but the massages are a delight. I've known of expats who've actually visited these places once and then gone home and recommended them to their peers.

And one question, how helpful are these massages for back pain ? Will it go in one session only ?

Yes exactly. When you mention the term "Massage Parlour" - people out here will think of a happy ending place and then look at you with disgust.
Oh fun fact! During one of my phases of ahem.. research - I discovered that there are international forums that have each country as a sub-forum where people talk about these massage parlours. They'll share the name of the girl, the technique used, whom to get in touch with, whom to avoid, the actual bargained price and the services offered. They'll also share phone numbers with Premium Members - (Jr. VIPs of those forums) who've actually paid for their membership so that they can find the best hookers based on recommendation. This was several years ago and NGL, but the teenage me seriously considered getting a membership. Fun times.

Depends. If it is a stress induced pain with a lot of walking/standing, a heavy frontal body, tons of sitting. A massage will work wonders.
If it is a chronic pain, it is best you see a QMP, rather than relying on anything.
Massages are not the cure for pain, but they're a supplemental support system and do help when done by professionals.
