Is Wix bad? Need suggestions

Basically, as a designer, I really love using Wix, as it is quick and painless and when working on freelancing projects it just makes it so much easier. Having said that, I've just finished the website for a luxury countryside villa, and I would get commision on every booking if I also take charge of the SEO. A lot of mates in the SEO world have advised me that Wix is a pretty crappy platform to use for such purposes, but also a lot of mates have also told me that it is actually alright.

Not knowing who to trust I bounce the question here, with a further question, in case it does suck is there a third-party service that I can connect to it in order to improve SEO?

It is..if youre looking for an easy to use platform than wordpress is one of the better ones and once youre on it you keep learning everyday. I used to use wix about 8 years ago and now i can fully code and build my own sites by using and developing on my wordpress knowledge. Its for beginners to advance basically whereas wix looks pretty and drag and drop helps but you get limited to what they put on

I'd honestly give it a second chance. Wix used to suck hard -- it was flash based and such.

In todays version, you can edit just about everything. Drag anything exactly where you want. You can create pages from database data, add animations, change fonts

Having a wix subsite ( * . wix .com or whatever) will obviously likely suck for seo. You can connect your domain.

It's easier than hassling with wordpress themes and CSS

The Wix Code feature lets you edit actual code from within wix.

Ive found aside from just making a site manually it goes, wordpress,drupal 7, shopify.

I wouldn't touch anything else, maybe ...joomla but i have no exp with it.

Wix has improved their SEO capabilities, but you will be better off using your own web host and WordPress. Wix is very easy to use, but you will have some growing pains with SEO if you use their platform.

It used to be total crap as they used flash, but I just looked at their site and seems they now use regular HTML. Given that you can see if they support the basic stuff, which they should as you can use HTML for that.

Having said that, I personally opt for WP , but if you have a great design and need no further functionality but just very basic onsite SEO then you should be able to do that with their editor (or directly in the html source)

I think this depends on what you are trying to achieve as the end result. If you are looking to build a site easily, quickly, and hassle free, then yes, Wix does provide all those functionality and ease of use respectively, as it has all the necessary modules that you will need. Not to mention, you can even register for a domain under their site, and use that as your front, while having Wix as the backend for your site.
But if you are looking for better flexibility in building your site, or have other requirements that Wix can't offer, then you would be better off with a WP site or a CMS site like joomla. Also, these website building sites like Wix may be less tolerable against a number of issues like copyright, trademark, etc, which a standalone site may be better off against those.

Thank you so much to all of you for the responses, I think this has cleared a few things for me, and also made me think of another question.

Now I have another question but I'm unsure of whether I should make a different post regarding it. Basically, I can design on Muse Wordpress Dreamweaver etc. but have little experience with SEO. If I was to let's say create a full HTML website on Dreamweaver and then upload it to a host, what sort of plugins would I have to use for the SEO/ how does it work?

Wi has its own Wix SEO thing, and Wordpress has yost etc. but what about a 'standalone' website, how do you set SEO on that?

Its not just Wix, most wysiwyg tools are just bad to use and maintain.

To your second question: Yoast SEO plugin is what you will need for seo with wordpress.


On a standalone website you do that by yourself, with META tags.

I'd just drop everything and go with WordPress. It has the best functions it's the best in seo and i I would never sell a wix site or a square space site to a client to be honest. Being on one of those platforms limits you in the long run. I see a lot of people eventually switch from wix and square space to WordPress but never the other way around .

I used Wix in the past, long ago when Wordpress or Drupal are not as good and versatile. But 3-4 years recently, best way is all the way to wp or drupal. Only use Wix for some small projects or t1s.

I suggest WP above Wix. WP has way more features regarding SEO.

It's easier to be more creative in Wix, and I love their drag and drop feature. But I agree with the majority here. WordPress is just more superior when it comes to managing your SEO in my opinion.
