Try B2B style marketing.

Market to businesses around you and even offer free sample work on how you can improve thier current design, and such.

If I am allowed to add my grain of salt, I would say finding clients is the key to any business success, the main key. You can take care of all other things needed to run a business, but if you do not know how to find clients, the business can't thrive. The best people are so good at finding new clients, they constantly grow the business, and that growth is due to sales. Imo this is the number skill to have.

Yes, you must have a general understanding of sales, we're you build and maintain business relationships.

Learn to speak for your yourself. And be confident.

Read some books on the topic, take a look at Grant Cordone. Yes the man is a freaking tool, but I do approve of his methods. That man can sell.

Try to find clients on your own and build connections. People bring People you know! If you get enough clients on your own, you will decide to leave the freelancing websites, because probably you will not have time to waste on cheap projects there. People still prefer to pay someone they know, or just someone they have met rather than paying someone behind the screen they do not know who they are.

Have a site for your own service and direct customers to it. Think of it as a business, not just freelancing jobs. If you keep pushing it, it will work at some point

Strategize before you visit and know what you want to design or redesign. Make your initial contact with the prospect but don't show up to solve a problem, just try to meet and greet, state your purpose, and secure a second appointment. While on your first visit, identify other penetration opportunities by looking around and asking open ended questions using TED (tell me, explain to me, describe).

It's easy as fuck, honestly. You're selling a relatively tailored product. So what you're looking for is input. Sometimes that input will come in the form of an objection but objections are a good thing. They're the prospects way of revealing why they want you and why you're valuable.

I suggest you make yourself availalble thorugh as many outlets as you can manage. I found my artist though fiver. I spent a good amount of time browsing the different sample arts available down multiple avenues until I found an artist whose style I liked and fit my desired look. Art is a labor of love, so sometimes you'll have to make things just to get noticed, and then you can focus on the selling. But seriously getting your work seen is the first big hurdle, so make sure your sample work is best reflective of your style and your skills. Good luck out there.
