Many different elements are involved for a site to rank.
But first of all, make sure that you have a good site with high quality content and that you have some good backlinks pointing to your site.
Make sure to also optimize your onpage SEO. https://yoast.com/ is a good site to learn SEO and use their SEO-plugin to get the basic onpage SEO correct on your pages.
