I think it depends on which reddit you want to post.

On some reddits, you can post directly links in replies and comments, but you will need some karma before posting a link reddit as a new thread.

But, I think that after a week since account creation and 10 posts published, you can post links in most reddits.

On majority of the smaller subreddits you can post links right away.
