Hi there,

I negotiated to purchase a blog post with a blogger that she write about a niche that is relevant to my business.

At the end of her blog post she wrote "sponsored post". I'm a little disappointed.

The domain is a good quality blog, legit blog.

Am I to assume the effect will be negative?

I really doubt there will be any difference in ranking due to a phrase "sponsored post" at the bottom. That would be too much even for Google to figure out.

Why do you think that the effect would be negative?

Google might just scan a page looking for all variations of text that might indicate whether a link had been paid for. If it could, it might not assign any value to that link. But we don't know whether either of those are true. Google wants us to believe it is super sophisticated. Given examples of how it works, I'm not sure.

In any case, there are other search engines that might not work in the same way. Bing might treat the link differently for example.

And you might get real people coming through the link to your website.

Just as a note, Google is trying to encourage site owners to make paid links nofollow. Why it would do this if it can detect whether the link is paid or not, I don't know.

Thanks Nargil and Unreliable Witness.

You're right, I don't believe Google is as sophisticated as it makes out. I'm worrying less now. Thanks guy.

It's a little irritating that G has been able to dictate to bloggers on how they should operate THEIR blogs, like it's the defacto leader of the internet (and perhaps it is?).

I don't see any problem with it. Google is fine with "sponsored post" with links that look natural inside a post.

as said its no problem ..... look at least that its not a nofollow link as well.

i agree, the phrase "sponsored post' will not effect page ranking and indexation
