Hey

How many results on a search term is considered to be competitive?

Thanks

That is really going to depend on the individual. If you are highly skilled with SEO then you might feel that 150 000 direct competitors is not high, however if you are only getting into it then the level of competition might be a little too difficult.

I have a list of search phrases that google show has from 10 million to 20 million results. But this niche is really being competed highly at all. They're mostly normal sites.

Is it too competitive?

Also, what is a good backlink checker? They all have different results...

I think 10,000 and below is fit for you. Like he said it depends on how skilled you are at SEO

use yahoo to find backlinks, if u search google for backlinks, u will only get a little part

did u use "" for searching that exact keyword?
if 10 million to 20 million results, that would be too competitive

With "" it's anywhere from 50,000 to 1,300,000 results. There are several around 50,000 ones that get 100,000-200,000 searches a month. So that's good news. The above million results ones get around high 100,000s and top ones are even above a million searches a month. Big potential.

Why does "" matter? Does google target results with ""s?

I'm targeting a list of around 50 keywords BTW. So I can backlink all the pages at the same time. So maybe I can target all pages and keywords, get the low competition traffic and then outsource and eventual start ranking for the high ones. :)

Suggestions?

Thanks guys

I think 50,000 is a little too competitive starting out..You need to check what pages are ranking in the first 1-3 pages, if they are authority sites etc..This thread will help you out a lot

It's really also beyond the actual number of searches, check into things like PR, what type of sites are currently ranked for that keyword. Check out the backlinks of some of the top ranking sites. Little things like that can give you an even deeper view of what is really going on for that specific keyword.
