Now I grew up in the 80's and 90's and IMO those were the best era in Rap!

I can name many rappers and groups like Tupac, Biggie Smalls, Wu Tang, NAS, DMX, Dr Dre, Snoop Dogg, Eminem, Bone Thugs and Harmony, Outcast, NWA, Eazy E, Ice Cube etc

But these days it's boys like 6ix9ine, lil uzi, lil yachti, (what a bitches) come on man.

One thing that is great about music is that there is something there for everyone.

You may not like a particular artist or the genre/style of his/her music, but that's okay.

Many people have an affinity toward the type of music they grew up with. I have been a musician for many years, and I try to keep my mind open and see if there is some redeeming value in various styles.

Ultimately, there are only two types of music: Good and Bad. However, the determining factor for what is Good and what is Bad in music is almost always a subjective matter.

This is like comparing a pristine 1962 Ferrari 250 GTO to a 2018 Ford Fusion and then saying: "Wouldn't you rather have the Ferrari?" If you're going to have this discussion, don't compare the best older rapper to newer rappers who aren't even close to being considered "the best".

You also need to consider how rap has become massively mainstream in the past 10 years. This has opened the door for nontraditional artists to create their own sub-niche within rap (Lil Uzi Vert, 6ix9ine, Yachty, etc). By no means are these rappers trying to compete with 2Pac's old-school style in any way.

Rap has evolved so much that it's hard comparing any modern rapper with a rapper from the 90s; however, you can definitely make an argument that Kendrick Lamar has made better albums than any of the artists you've mentioned - specifically To Pimp a Butterfly and good kid, m.A.A.d city. Many music critics consider Kendrick Lamar to be the greatest rapper of all time. You could also argue that Kanye West has made a better rap albums that any of the artists you've mentioned - My Beautiful, Dark, Twisted Fantasy and College Dropout. Some people have considered him to be one of the best overall artists of all time, from his creative production to his constantly changing sound. You could also argue that Jay-Z is one of the greatest of all time, and most of his musical success has come in the last 10-15 years.

My two cents.

Kanye West, love him or hate him, is 10 times more revolutionary in terms of music than anyone you've mentioned in the original post. For example, 808s and Heartbreak helped pave the way for artists like Drake and Kid Cudi. His album Graduation paved the way for autotune (love it or hate it). College Dropout was one of the first massively successful rap albums that wasn't really focused on drugs and crime - it also gave J Cole the sample that gave him his first break.

Yeezus helped pave the way for artists like Travis Scott. It also gave Kendrick Lamar the confidence to create To Pimp a Butterfly. MBDTF is one of the most beautifully produced and iconic albums of all time. The Life of Pablo was an excellent way to give Chance the Rapper the recognition he needed for his career.

The list goes on and on...

EDIT: Let's also not forget that one of the best artists from 2017, Brockhampton, https://genius.com/discussions/296309-The-ktt-thread-brockhampton-met-in. Also Frank Ocean and Childish Gambino have all taken massive influence from Kanye.
