Question for Local SEO Experts

Hi,

I'm looking at the possibility of using a service such as Whitespark or Bright Local for consistent citations. For those who have used either service do they:

1. Automatically update business address to citation sites?
2. Easy to use?
3. Ideal for multiple locations? (I have around 30 locations).

And please your personal experience of using either service. To be honest I find both websites a little confusing.

Used Bright L once I think — And to be honest I think these all overpriced / Hyped. Basically what they go is piggybacking. Apart from the traditional local directories... They tend to piggyback on competitors to see where they not
Listed on Local Directories and tend to make one for customers.

You can easily manual-undergo the same process by Reserve Engineering your comps.

Being in the industry since 2012 the problem with these type of services now in 2018 is most of them use the same description, pictures etc.. which now Google isn't indexing the majority of the citations so if you did 100 they may index 20 which isn't going to help you rank. So manually doing them and making sure they are done right is important, you can hire someone and have them give you login and then go back through them but the problem with that option is some directories only allow you to submit once and charge to update the info so keep that in mind.

Citation & Local SEO is very important. And google's latest updates is giving this things a really higher point too.
So yes, you can use those services. Or Do it yourself, use local platforms, yellow pages, google business, google map, local news sites, social page etc

Citations might not add up to your ranks.. It's just the traditional way of spreading out your links and piggybacking on authority websites. In addition, most of local directories come as No-follow.

You quoted 6 words from what I said, but what I was actually saying is if you use citations with the exact same description etc.. over and over Google doesn't index them. So spreading as many of your links around that aren't indexed is useless. Was simply giving some advice to make sure each citation is original and manually created so they are indexed.

Go back and manually change the descriptions and images, it's also an opportunity to ensure that everything is filled out. Pay someone to go back and do it, I personally like to ensure everything is done correctly myself.

I mentioned this in another thread, but when I was more heavily focused on local seo I used marketerscenter.com and was very happy with the results.

I think WhiteSpark and BrightLocal have grown to much for their own good.

Citations are still important for local SEO, but are pretty useless if you post them on bad directories that aren't indexed. Just something to keep in mind.

Both require some work to use. I found both sites confusing as well.

Multiple location citations are definitely possible with both services as well.

I'm a big fan of directorybug.com
It's a more personal approach and more customer focused, since it's a smaller agency.
The guys are great talking to and answer all your questions as well (this I was missing from the bigger citation firms).

Ideas on how to fully index a business directory site with 300k pages?

Google is only indexing a few hundred pages as of now, but until a few weeks ago, most of the pages were indexed. It seems there was an algo update that removed all the pages from the index.

Like i said, a few weeks ago I was able to index all these pages without a problem via sitemap submission.... Now it's not working anymore and most of the indexed pages disappeared....

The site is new (couple months old), it doesn't have any backlinks and I didn't add it to WBT and I won't do it (had really bad experience before)...

Suggestions?

Used bright local once and will never use their service again. As @Nateolsen they use the same description for all citations which is useless. There are providers out there that write different descriptions for each citation which increases the index rate.

Side not there is so much more that goes into local seo than just getting more citations than your competitors so I wouldn't focus on that to much.
