First off I would like to say that I have been following DAGs for a few months now, thanks to @PinguSpy and I am aware of scams projects (Stone, Azulik etc.). It’s sad actually that almost all of these projects are scam. Also to be noted, I have not yet invested in any of these DAG+privacy projects.

One of the projects I have been following very closely is Flicker Network (flickernetwork.com). I took place in the bounty campaign and also communicated with the devs over e-mail. They claim to be the first true currency, fast, free and fully private. They are launching the entire system (coins, network, exchange) on April 30 (called the Genesis). And they claim everything will be fully operational on day 1.

The team said that the product is finished and the exchange is being built by a third party. The development was funded by the team of 6 people. Because one of the points of Flicker is privacy, they will not disclose their identities, but two of them are supposed to be experienced Crypto Note developers. Their communication is very professional and levelheaded.

Flicker runs on Nano (Raiblock) for the DAG part and CryptoNote (the same as Monero) for the privacy part.

They offer the 200 ETH prize to whoever can identify the sender, receiver, and amount of the first transaction on the Flicker network following the hard-coded genesis block.

Originally 99% of all coins were going to be distributed free to the public (each person gets 50.000 FNT) to ensure wide adoption. The devs keep 1% of coins.

The number of coins will not be final (around 100 billion at the start) because inflation is built in the system (as with fiat) to ensure the use of Flicker as a currency, not an asset (as is currently the state with Bitcoin and majority of all other cryptos).

--------------------

You must understand my excitement with the project with everything written until this point. But, there was a change of plans a couple of weeks back. The team decided to hold a token sale to raise money for promotion. Which in my opinion is good, because to get noticed among thousand of cryptos you need promotion, not just the community. However, this raises the alarm if Flicker is also a scam, as other similar projects.

Me and other members of the community asked about this and the devs replied that if the sale does not go as planned, there will be no promotion, however, the Genesis will take place as originally planned on April 30th.

In 8 days, as long the sale is going on, they raised 42 ETH. The sale will finish on April 23rd.

To show they are serious they deposited the 200 ETH to the prize wallet (etherscan.io/address/0x935136f6d54b28de56254068b281337406473892) and today they released extended whitepaper with more details about how the system will function.

In my opinion claiming the free tokens at the Genesis is a no-brainer. But I wonder what you guys think about the entire project? The easiest thing to say is that it’s a scam, but what if it’s not? If these guys actually have DAG + privacy? And I particularly like the inflation (I know it’s uncommon in crypto but not very many coins have tackled the problem of crypto as speculative asset and this could be one of the solutions).

I read the new whitepaper and I like the economics part, but I don’t know enough about the technical part to know if what they claim makes sense or not.

I will be grateful for your comments if you have any.

I am also following this project keenly, I think after the Genesis launch slated for end of the month we might have an idea on what direction this new network intends to bring to the cryptosphere.

how to claim free token? from this project

Once the exchange is open (April 27th) you need to register there and you will receive your 50.000 FNTs on April 30th. There will be more waves of distribution. You need to provide a phone number to validate your account with SMS in order to ensure wide distribution and stop fake accounts.

ok thanks

Flicker team published another Q&A today and there is an interesting question (and answer) about how to keep full privacy of transactions and node balances while utilizing dPoS voting. You can read the full answer here:

It turned out Flicker Network be a scam ... They did not even wait until April 30th, right after the token sale ended they deleted website, Medium and BTC thread. They collected over 230 ETH from the "token" sale. :(
I hope nobody here invested any money ...
It seems we'll still have to wait for a real DAG + privacy.

This scam was quite elaborate, their communication was very professional and at the beginning promises of free distribution gained some interest ... they "came to an idea" for a token sale for promotional costs only a month before the launch (because the product was supposed to be finished already) and it seems it worked well for them. It just shows the scammers are getting better and more innovative each time.
