Anyone Else Have SEO Clients?

Over the last few months I have managed to take on a few clients for SEO campaigns.

My original intention was actually to try and avoid this route (and work as an affiliate instead), however now I'm reconsidering as I'm finding it easy enough to get clients and it could be a good earner until I get some of the affiliate stuff to work.

Does anyone else do seo on behalf of clients? Also are there any ebooks/ course relating to running your own consultancy that are recommended?

Hey zai21, its small businesses Im looking at as well. I'm noticing there's a lot of small business owners out there who know what seo is (concept anyway), but don't want to go to an agency and don't know what to ask a freelancer to do.

Do you have contracts with your clients and/or disclaimers if rankings aren't achieved?

I manage some seo projects too, but i think that can be a pain in the ass sometimes, it's good for quick money but i prefer working on my own projects, day by day i love much more working for myself using all the stuff that BHW has to offer.

Anyway, you need to be clear in your disclaimers when you begin with a seo project, my recommendation is, set a 6 months contract durations and offer conversions instead of #1 of a keyword and you need to set the keyword not the client.

I do seo for local business and charge them anywhere from 500-1000 a week depending on the KW they want me to rank them for.

I find it a great way to make side money or help pay of some of your other "fun" bills.

Do you use some paying services doing seo for your costumers?

I have been taking on clients for SEO and PPC for over 10 years now and its my only form of income. In these 10 years I have managed to support a family of 4 and love every minute of the career.

I will recommend that taking on clients, that you make your reporting top notch, there is allot of eductaion needed for most clients and the more clear and concise the reporting is, will cut down alot of hand holding.

I have worked in every possible vertical over the years and the 2 main areas that you must push through are:

1. Educate the client to understand that SEO is a long term play, instant placement or exposure calls for PPC. Traditionally a combination of both works best

2. Deliver the results. Educate the client about expectations. for example, if your client sells " coffee beans" you have to instill in the client that, out of the gate they wont beat "Starbucks", educate them in who they may want to target

The education part is extremely important. Sometimes a clients objectives can be unobtainable, thus , the "value add" in the education becomes a major part of helping the client get to where they want to go and implementing it correctly from the beginning will raise the feeling of trust

Thanks. Results won't be the issue, heck probably even getting clients isn't the issue. It's giving up on the company that I'm with which is the problem. We'll see what happens.

Hey this is a great thread I am in the process of converting some clients wil be taking on approx. 5 some much better paying than others.

Some will offer a very limited free consultation.

I am very interested to learn more regarding offering PPC as a SEO consultant.I have dealt with before but always implemented by someone else?

Any tips regarding this would be great. I am guessing you PPC things that are too competitve to organically rank for when you do you KW research...

Personally, Im trying to stay away from PPC for clients for the next 6 months until all the SEO stuff is sorted.

I do like the advice about educating clients - I am putting a lot of work into creating transparent overviews of the different services and why we do them. It's going to be a lot of work but it's going to be worth it.

In regards to PPC consulting, depending on the industry it comes down allot to budget for clients. Obviously the goal is to get the most conversions for the lowest cost but that can be difficult if the client wants the budget to be 10.00 a day especially with Adwords. When you create your proposal you should cover off on:

1 Industry Overview - this would be the vertical the client is in and how competitive it is.

2. Campaign Objective - why you are using paid search marketing, brand awareness and creating a constant exposure through keywords

3. Strategy - what are you going to implement to create clicks and conversions

4. Keywords - what are you targeting. Personally I use the free Google suggestion tool just so the client could go there as well and try it for themselves and see exactly what the report covers. I also use keywordspy for more competitive information, but that's a paid tool

5. Adgroups - what is the breakdown of groups and why are you doing it that way

6. Creative - ad copy. What are the components to make it successful, how many ads will you be running per ad group and why

7. Landing Pages - will you be creating the specific pages yourself or will you be re structuring current pages. At this area you should inform the client about A/B testing on pages

8. Tracking - implementation of tracking codes, why your using them and what information the client will be able to get from them

8 Deliverables - basically what are you going to do to ensure the client has exposure, clicks, conversions and reporting

Above is just a quick summary, that should give you a start on creating an effective PPC proposal for a client. There's a lot more you can put into it, especially focusing on what the competition is doing in terms of daily / monthly spending, positioning, keywords use etc....

Never under estimate the budget costs or the client will not be prepared for any increased areas as soon as the vertical becomes more competitive. Basically don't tell them they can get somewhere spending 10.00 a day when its obvious through research that 50.00 a day is needed. Reinforce with the client that PPC is not a "set it and forget it" type of marketing, make them understand, that for PPC constant tweaks and monitoring is needed to provide a working path to get the best results possible

I would recommend advancedwebranking dot com its not free but worth the investment...it will track organic as well as PPC ... Im sure there are free ones out there that plugin to Firefox or IE but that one by far is the best paid soultion.... and no aff link attached from me
