Not sure if this has been posted before, I did a quick search and didn't see it. But they're disabling alot of the features in the API starting July this year. This will force alot of bots to become private or the ones that remain public will go up in price quite a bit.

The following will be available until July 31, 2018:

• Follower List - to read the list of followers and followed-by users
• Relationships - to follow and unfollow accounts on a user’s behalf
• Commenting on Public Content - to post and delete comments on a user’s behalf on public media

The following will be available until December 11, 2018:

• Commenting - to post and delete comments on a user’s behalf on owned media
• Public Content - to read any public profile info and media on a user’s behalf
• Likes - to like and unlike media on a user’s behalf
• Subscriptions - to receive notifications when media is posted

The following will be available until early 2020:

• Basic - to read a user’s profile info and media

Whup. Big changes to botting coming soon. We're probably going to see a shutdown of a lot of services as you said, not having an API makes scaling very difficult.

Taking out alot of those main features in the API will make it alot more difficult for inexperienced programmers to create bots as well as Web developers who rely on the API for their platforms. Majority of these bots and Web based apps do rely on it.. you would be surprised. Only really experienced programmers and Web developers will be able to still make good bots without those features being available, which will in turn force the price up on bots or make them go private. I suggest learning how to program if you haven't already.. even if it doesn't apply to this scenario, it's an invaluable skill that I've found useful for well over a decade. Sorry, can you explain me this " this will force a lot of bots to become private" how they will do without API ??? Probably I didn't understand well...

Nice, something new. Its natural process - they makes protections, guys makes ways to work. Now it was too easy because anyone could make working IG bot in a few weeks with really avarage knowledge. Thats why we have so shit ton of bots here - I know at least like 10 of public bots. Its not normal, time for changes.
Swagger kids with IG+OG era will end and new era will begings.

You're definitely right. There will always be ways around the problem. As pratiksaha stated earlier, it's natural progression in Internet marketing, it will knock out alot of the fly by night bots and the more experienced programmers will remain. Will it effect the price of public bots? I could see that happening since there will be less options, less competition. Only time will tell. I wouldn't get worried, was just posting to keep people in tune with what's going on over there and their plans. There will always be options, just a matter of having the right connections, or money to get in. Or knowledge on how to do it yourself.

I code myself as well, and have over a decade of experience in a couple languages.. but that's neither here nor there, good to speak with a fellow programmer.. but I do know that alot of these fly by night bots that pop open make use of the API, anyone looking to make a sturdy bot wouldn't imo because they can do exactly what they're doing now a switch it up.

Don't the bots around here emulate mouse/finger clicks on the app itself on its own android emulator? Some send http request and not use the API at all?

They are talking about official public API. Most bots do not use this API.

Bots use private APIs used by Instagram mobile app, unless they disable these features from their mobile app, they cannot prevent bots.
