Loosing ranking and snippet not showing

Hi guys

So one of my money sites that been ranking top5 for over a 1year been hit with some kind of penalty on 16 or 17th.

It dropped to 2nd page for most keywords and in G results it look like this now:

Looks the same when doing site:

But only for the 2 money pages, rest of the site is showing fine. Also when doing site: the 2 money pages dont show, they only show when doing site:*url*, then they show without snippet and with default Page title instead of modified with Yoast.

It looks like it's a problem with onsite rather than backlinks, what do you think?

I tried following:

• Reinstalling Yoast Plugin
• Indexing urls through GWT
• Resubmitted sitemap(old one that was made with Yoast had error - no urls submitted)
• Checked with G Structured Data Tool - everything looks fine

No recent changes to the 2 Money pages or site in general except for I changed from Wordfence to WP Scurity on the 14th. Since rest of the site is showing fine it must be something else.

Anyone seen this before?

I am not sure that this ^^^ means.

2/ If the site was stable for a very long time, I would look at the changes you made in the past 2-4 weeks. So

I changed from Wordfence to WP Scurity on the 14th.

could be the reason, as you never really know what a plugin did to your site.

Thanks for input, just turned plugin off and resubmitted sitemap.

Just checked cache and both money pages are not even cached anymore, so might be backlink penalty?

Wordfence or WP Scurity shouldn't have an effect on your serp. Its very unlikely.

Did you recently add any backlinks to those pages?

You say your site ok 1 year now suddenly a problem, it just happens mate as google is unpredictable.. i had similar problem but in my case is 3 years ranking #1 not 1 year.. and then suddenly drop to 3 then after some weeks to 5 then to 8 then page 2.. I tried improving on-page, adding more links nothing at all helped. Then i was wondering well maybe google just rotate results and give chance to other sites to see quality of traffic so once they drop you that you can purchase their adwords.. It may sound crazy but what else to to think.. Wait and hope you recover..try adding some new strong links, if that not help i dont think there is much you can do. And i would not mess with on-page you may screw things even worse..

Did you recently add any backlinks to those pages?

Yea added few links in the past weeks:
14.03.2018 - 20 Power Point and 20 High DA profiles
14.03.2018 - about 150 social signals
11.03.2018 - 301 redirect another site in the same niche, which was ranking top 15 for the same keywords
- I suspect this one might have caused this, however really weird that G would punish a scetchy 301 since I can now point it to competitor. - Removed this one yesterday.
1.02.2018 - 40 PBN, 20 Homepage and 20 Regular from Reputable seller here for about 14$ / link with 40 day drip feed so they were published ~ 10.03.2018

The redirect is now indexed and is ranking #8 while money site is ranking #7 but without snippet and with default title (like in screenshot) really weird. I have never seen first page ranking without snippet, WTF.


I suspect its either the 301 or PBN links. Gameplan for now is to wait about a week for the 301 redirect to loose effect. If still nothing then would problably ask PBN seller to remove links.

Thanks for sharing. Kinda the same here, one page went from ranking #2 for almost 1 year to dopping to #5 since 26th jan and now to second page and not even cached.

Sorry I missed the snippet bit. In my experience this happens when there are crawl issues. Can you look into your search console for new alerts? Might be a site change that triggered it.

IMO a single 301 shouldnt be the case here. PBN may be. The problem with public PBN is they tend to link to every other sites regardless of niche. Becomes a problem very quickly. You can check this yourself.

Also look into your competitors' stats, are they building backlinks recently.

Yesterday Crawling issue came up in new search console design, it showed that Robots.txt was blocking access to the 2 money pages, also it showed that it first appeared on the 18th, but I'am sure as hell that there was a delay in GWT, as I went through every single thing in both GWT and on my website on the 17th.

Also really weird that robots blocked access to 2 pages only as i have not done any changes to robots and sure as hell wouldnt block access to my money pages :S.

But everything is back to normal now so that's good.

Great to hear that

About the robots.txt - the change might have been triggered by one of security plugins, since most of them work with htaccess and robots.txt. Just a note for the future.

I don't know about. How your site looks like it is broken in SERP, But the date you mentioned is having some relevancy with the new Google update. But it looks like there is no workaround till now. As i have got no messages in GWT or mail. I think we need to wait. And what below mentioned telling is looks much true.
