Hi,

what I noticed while talking to some SEO, that they did not heard about the new Meta Description update at google what was release in 12/2017 ( 4 month ago ) !

Google doubled the meta description length you can use in the SERPS:

BEFORE:
hXo3P5o

NOW:
s41AgFS

As you can see you will get 2 more Lines in the SERPS for free ! The more space/room your website owns at the SERPS the higher your Click-Through will be !

Changing your meta description to the latest google guidelines is currently the best SEO tip imho.

When we heard about that nice hidden gem tip we tried to find a way to utilize this tip but found out that most of these "Google SERP Snippet tools" use the old description and title length. So obvious they are useless by now.

That's the point where we decided to free some time and develop a new tool complying the new google standards.
After some internal discussions we want to give something back to this great community. So we made the tool public available: Google SERP Snippet Tool

Have fun optimizing your meta description length and your title tag to heavily increase your CTR.

Feel free to leave feedback or suggestions.

This only counts for desktop SEO. IF you are into mobile the description is way less then on desktop. I just tend to stay to the point on the website. I had a long description and then changed it to shorter and didn't see any rank improvements to be honest. It could be just in my case though.

CTR is better now with shorter description (but could be because the viewers I get are usually in an emergency situation). So something short and to the point of solving their problem is what got me a CTR increase.

Correct me if I am wrong but you are saying to increase the length of the meta description that's it or something else apart from it?

They are just optimizing layouts as different sized devices are being used nowadays to browse the internet. But a good share nevertheless.

Yes! Increase the meta description and title length to the new google guidelines.

Check if your users are mostly desktop or mobile and decide how to optimize. Os buidl a detection script and show the suitable description.

Cheers

Realistically, title/description have always been important to drive the click. It’s a bit better with more room, but the title is still where you can make or break the money click.

Typically every 2 months I make tweaks to our titles to test CTR. I found a handle list of top buzz words used that had better CTR’s and incorporated them. I’ve already seen an improvement.

Always be testing.

Thanks for the tip. I knew about the change but didn't really get to adding the extra words. My clients are also not complaining.

I'll try it out now though :)

Most "clients" have no idea about SEO thats why they hired you. So do your best for your clients :)

Thanks for the tip, mate! I have been trying to interchange the character count I've been setting lately just to be sure and I think, the lengthened meta description is working better.
