Guest blogging can surely help you with that. You have to keep in mind that you post on sites relevant your niche which also accept guest blogging and your content is of high quality.

To add to that, look for high traffic blogs in your niche and guest blog on those - with a view to generating traffic rather than to benefit seo as you said you’re not interested in that.

Use bot - you can get loads of traffic, bot with proxies so you can increase alexa rank.

Do you mean forum as server side software for conversation of registered users?
If so, the methods here are different.
Forums are regular user oriented firstly.
You should to build meaningful dialogs.
Try it yourself, or use special content services, that will post messages on your forum, its pretty cheap.

What forum software are you using? Phpbb, vbulletin? Which one
You can get traffic by advertising on Adwords, FB Ads, Quora Ads etc.
Even if you manage to get some traffic, it won't help if you Forum doesn't have many threads to engage the traffic. I have managed a few forums in the past and it's really difficult to get any real discussion going on forums unless you have some already existing sites with huge user base like a blog or something.
Another method to get engagement (always works) is offer to pay your members per post (not much, a few cents per post with $5 threshold) or start a monthly competition like "Top poster wins $10". You can promote these contests on forumpromotion.net and similar forums.

you are reading my mind, you just used the write term "engagement" but is like my registration process is too tough because it calls for email verification, I have instructed my webmaster to replace the registration with FACEBOOK or just remove the verification. The forum is brandwetalk.com
