What Exactly Is a Silo?

So, I've been reading around numerous journey threads, and I keep coming across the term silo. Based off my limited research, it seems no different than having your articles separated into relevant categories? Can someone shed a little light on this subject for me? Is there a difference between a virtual silo and separating posts into relevant categories?

Totally depends on the size of your website. If you are creating websites with more than 60 - 100 articles, then it worth reading about it.. but don't put too much effort as google became very good at understanding your website structure anyway

Alright guys, so I definitely have a better understanding of what a silo is. Would the following be a correct implementation of a silo? @TechEinstien

Category 1 = Reviews. I created a page (https://yourdomain.com/reviews). I then 301 redirected (https://yourdomain.com/category/reviews) to (https://yourdomain.com/reviews). This page will showcase my most recent reviews (maximum of 20) across all the categories I review.

Category 2 = X Reviews. I created a page (https://yourdomain.com/x-reviews). I then set Reviews as the parent category and 301 redirected (https://yourdomain.com/category/x-reviews) to (https://yourdomain.com/reviews/x-reviews). This page will showcase the most recent reviews for X.

Category 3 = Y Reviews. I created a page (https://yourdomain.com/y-reviews). I then set Reviews as the parent category and 301 redirected (https://yourdomain.com/category/y-reviews) to (https://yourdomain.com/reviews/y-reviews). This page will showcase the most recent reviews for Y.

Also, instead of having (https://yourdomain.com/reviews/x-reviews), should it just be (https://yourdomain.com/reviews/X)?

I'm really digging this silo thing. Definitely makes the website feel a bit more smooth. And to make it even better, none of my competition seems to be utilizing one.

Their URLS consist of the /category tag. And their category pages seem to be the default Archive page.
